Fort Myers 'Big 4'

Sano .337/.431/..637

Rosario .339/.379/.522

Vargas .287/.362/.544

Morales .292/.361/.514

Looking back over past 7 yrs of FSL stats, these guys stack up with anybody in the league. To be fair, most guys are promoted throughout the year & dont accumulate the 389 plate appearances to qualify.....but just for comparison/arguement sakes in the notorious pitchers league

i agree but its solid numbers for Angel & he's still only 23 all season.

He'll get on the 40 man this offseason as a 6yr FA

With Benson now gone, this is a good possibility. On the other hand, Twins have a lot of prospects who will need to be added to the 40 Man this offseason. Somebody is getting exposed.

Seems every year there is alot that need to be protected, but Morales for all purposes takes Benson's spot on 40 man. There is a lack of AAA/AA OF depth (i consider Arcia a MLB player) that makes it easier for him

Yeah, being down on Angel is understandable, but people forget the injuries and the fact that he is still young. He was a top 8ish prospect three years ago.

The Twins have a LOT that can be shed from the 40-man roster after the season.

And look and see who the 7th and 9th prospects were, we didnt have much then did we?

Eddie Rosario now hitting .344.

Highest anyone has hit in FSL since 05 is Stephen Voights .345 in 2010.

Vargas also now leads FSL in RBI w/48

11 gms till FSL All Star Break also, so promotions are coming soon.

That is my hope. Move that group up and see what you have at AA. Worst case, they struggle and start next year at AA. Best case, they dominate and are either fighting for a MLB spot in 2014 or we finally have solid prospects at AAA.

I'd be very surprised if Morales was on our 40 man roster next year. He's had over 2000 milb PA, 1000 of them at A+ where he's hit .255/.332/.378 while striking out over a quarter of the time. I know he's had some injury issues but I don't think he's the type of guy you worry about losing, even though he is still only 23.

Now if they promote him to AA and he he puts up a .875 OPS, I'll change my mind.

Morales is currently walking in 8.4% of his plate appearances and striking out in 27.1%, which is worse than Aaron Hicks's 8.9% BB rate and 26.9% K rate. Furthermore, Morales's K and BB rates are slightly worse than what he has posted the past 2 seasons in Fort Myers. Don't expect his stellar year to continue.

I would like to see Sano and Rosario stay in Fort Myers until at least the All Star break, if not a little later. Even though Vargas has been very impressive, he should stay a little longer. Remember, he has only played 95 games above rookie level because of that suspension.

One thing I would like to see out of Rosario is more patience at the plate. He swings at a lot of bad pitches early in the count and if he does not adjust this he is not going to be as effective moving up the minor league ladder.

On the other hand, I thought he was very good in the field. The most recent game I observed he made a very nice running catch in short right field, handled every ball very cleanly, and made two nice pivots on double plays that showed great footwork and very good arm strength.

I have not seen Morales play in over two years at Ft Myers. WIth players like Morales I think the Twins should be very aggressive in moving him up. He is 23 years old but has been in the A-/A+ level for 5 years now. Either he can do it, or he cannot. Move him to AA now, and maybe even AAA by the end of the season. If he does well, then he is back on track for his career and probably a reasonable choice for the 40 man roster. If he cannot handle the higher level of competition, then the opposite choice is the obvious one to make. Maybe he can continue to plod up the minor leagues, with the Twins or some other organization. But, the time most likely has already passed for him.
