Outside Blog Entries

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one that feel these are getting a bit ridiculous? If they get posted into the TD Blog section, that is one thing, but I am getting tired of Lord knows how many people posting their outside material to get hits on the Twins thread. I openly questioned one a few weeks ago and got the answer back that they were approved from the higher ups that run the site, which I guess is fine, but I feel like every other thread I click on is someone promoting their article that is coming from somewhere else.

/rant.

Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine, but I feel like it has a bit of a spam-esque feel to it. People that make an account and then begin posting links to their blog elsewhere. "Hi guys! I'm Bob! I'm new to the site! Check out my link to follow my website over at Bob's Blog!"

I guess I feel like the site seems more organized when all the blog entries are kept to the Blog section. They can still be commented on all the same.

I think people have generally been doing a good job of not only linking to their writing but also including some additional thoughts/comments to spark a conversation about a relevant topic. In this respect, it's not really different from any other thread starter. You certainly don't have to follow their blog links.

Thanks for the words guys. I don't personally blog but I just see a lot of people that do post their own material in the Blog section and if I were them I would feel like others were taking shortcuts to get people to see their stuff. That's really all the more I have to say on the matter... An airing of opinion I guess.

It's a good question and a fair question. As you know, we obviously encourage people to use the Blog feature here at Twins Daily if they want. It can get a good readership and sometimes they get promoted. We have heard from several that post here and at their own blog that they have seen good increases on their other sites as well. So, that's a great thing!

In the spring especially, you likely noticed that we would post articles from several of the Twins beat writers or national writers about the Twins. The thread title would start "Bollinger: Story Name, etc." Now, often the stories are on the same topics, so we definitely encourage putting links with appropriate threads..

For other sites, the same can happen if it's a good talker. Give a good descriptive title, provide a link and get a talker going.

This is, and we want to encourage, a Twins community where we can agree and disagree, but also support other writers.

Valid point and very well put.
