Pat Neshek owns a 2.81 ERA over 18 appearances.

Born and bred in Minnesota, Neshek has been a decent middle reliever since he was unceremoniously waived by the Twins prior to the 2011 season. Over the last two seasons in Oakland, he's posted a 2.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 27/14 K/BB ratio over 42 appearances.

Jason Marquis limited the Cardinals to two runs -- one earned -- on three hits over six innings to improve to 6-2 on Monday.

Marquis has won each of his last five trips to the bump and has been one of baseball's best starters over that stretch.

Does Gardy have to call TR for permission to put Carroll into the starting lineup? It certainly isn't due to Carroll's BA against Hudson (.091).

Doumit in RF over the "scuffling" rookies? Could be extra adventuresome in the OF tonight....

Can I get some action on the under?

Quick question? The underlying, unsaid stat is identifying who the #1 K-guy is on the Twins. Pitching all of 14+ innings, that would be Perkins. Is there a way to make a quick (and free) check to determine the last time the 8th inning set-up guy and the Closer led the entire staff in Ks for a season?

I'd say Perk and Burton have a fighting chance to make it happen.

A custom B-ref query could do it (though not free without a subscription), but there would be no way to distinguish between setup men and your standard middle reliever.

Though I would imagine any reliever good enough to rack up enough K's would be one of the late game guys anyway.

Sounds like a mildly interesting article, who is TD's "query master?"
