There's been a lot of talk abut Buxton's power potential. He hasn't put up prodigious numbers of HR's, but he seems to have gone amazingly deep on several that he has hit. His swing looks line drivish to me, but the walk off yesterday looked like a clear upper cut attempt at going yard. This kid is more interesting every day.

Colabello - 2 doubles and a BB - He might be 29 but at some point I hope he gets some MLB AB's. It's still a bit of a longshot but perhaps he's the placeholder 1Bman for a couple of years instead of Parmelee. I remain optimistic about Parmelee though.

Pinto - 3/4 and a BB - it's more and more likely that butera's time in MN is over

Meyer was solid - 5.1IP 4K 0BB 2ER - 76 pitches and 55 strikes

Sano homer again - yawn...

Vargas stays hot with a HR

Baxendale with another nice game 5IP, 3K, 2BB, 0ER

Polanco keeps rolling with 3/5 2 doubles and a BB

Good to see you again.

I'm becoming less impressed with Polanco's athleticism. He sounds more like a guy that will be okay at 2B defensively rather than a SS option. The 3B's and SB's is an odd stat to have though. I'm guessing he isn't getting the green light much and I think the midwest league has some fairly large OF's.

I like Polanco, but how does a guy have five triples and no steals?

I found this discussion interesting because I've actually been impressed with Polanco's athleticism.

It's hard to steal a base already occupied. I went back through my scorebook to check, in the 11 games I've covered and kept a scorecard, how often he arguably could have stolen a base. In those games alone, of the 22 times he reached first or second base base, 14 times he had a runner blocking him from even attempting to steal the next base. Buxton and Pimentel get on base ahead of him an awful lot.

Even when there's nobody blocking him from stealing, I can't think of any time when I thought it really made a lot of sense for the #3 hitter to attempt a steal with Hicks, Walker and Harrison coming up behind him.

I doubt Polanco has the same kind of speed Buxton, Pineda, Williams and Pimentel have, but I don't doubt he could steal a few bases if he were playing a role that required it of him.

I have been searching for the past hour on Baxendale, hoping to find something on his potential, but I have been unable to find anything. What do you think Baxendale's potential is?

At this point in his development I would put him between Hendriks and DeVries as far as ability. Hendriks was pretty awesome statistically at a similar level but he was lacking the mythical 'stuff'. Currently that is the knock on Baxendale but a) he could have more stuff than people think B) he could succeed similar to Diamond (doesn't have great 'stuff' either). It will be interesting to see what happens as he moves up. It's always nice to have solid arms in the system.
