Anyone else sick of our horrible roto?

Recommended Posts

When did rotation turn into "roto?" Is it a rotOtion? Can we call it a "rotay" instead? I know it is the internet but we are still Twin fans. I would expect this from illiterate yankee fans...but not twinkie fans. Don't even get me started on rbi('s)

To play devil's advocate, it's not called a rotaytion. There's not even a 'y' in it. A ROTatiOn (roto) makes more sense.

I agree with your last statement. Runs batted ins are a pet peeve of mine too. Thankfully all the bloggers here use RBI correctly as plural and singular. Just saw yesterday in the newspaper that they added the dreaded 's' though.

Disagree. Gibson has "earned" the call-up by being more talented than the majority of the current rotation. I'm not so concerned about his lack of consistency considering that so many pitchers in the Twins' rotation have been consistently terrible. Get Gibson up, let him take his lumps and pitch up to his innings cap, hope that he learns enough to be ready for 2014.

Even if it's not Gibson, the team's unwillingness to take any action on the rotation is getting really frustrating. They rank 29th out of 30 teams in SP ERA and while I can somewhat understand waiting a bit on Worley to see if his luck changes, Hernandez is blatantly not an MLB starting pitcher and Pelfrey has got nothing right now. For all the talk about pitchers needing to "earn" things, I'm having trouble seeing what Pelf has done to earn such a long leash other than signing a $4M contract.

I agree Gibson is probably better than most of the rotation but I'm not sure I agree the best thing for him right now is to start taking his lumps in the majors. I generally trust the Twins development as to when to call a guy up and I think that is especially true right now because there is no financial incentive to keep him down any longer if he was actually ready.

Hernandez doesn't belong in a major league rotation.

I say we make this thread productive, and change it to an avatar thread, like a game thread. I'll start:

Jimi Hendrix...most overrated singer and songwriter of the rock n roll era? Skilled guitar player, horrible musician. Almost unlistenable.

On the rotation topic. Worley and Pelfrey have to be better. Hernandez is barely hanging on... It's up to him... The front office has to be discussing who to run up the flagpole next and whento run them up the flagpole... I hope they are anyway.

On Jimi Hendrix... To quote Neil Young... "There is no one in the same room as Jimi Hendrix on Guitar".

Its not just Neil Young... It's all the guitar greats who point at Jimi. Pete Townshend saw Jimi play for the first time in England... Immediately after he went over to Eric Clapton's place and told Eric that he just saw the guy who was going to make them obsolete. He was serious and he actually thought he was done. When every great guitarist bows at his alter... It becomes almost indisputable.

In my opinion... There is no way he could be considered a horrible musician. Just his unmatched guitar skill alone removes the adjective horrible. Add to that his arrangements... His arrangement of All Along the Watchtower was so good that Bob Dylan said.. "That's better I'm gonna use that arrangement in my concerts".

As a songwriter... He wrote "Little Wing" anybody who can write that song gets cred from me.

As a total package... He becomes a matter of personal taste... For my personal taste... Some of his material goes over the edge. While I admire his incredible skill... Personally... it isn't exactly what I'm looking for at times.

I'm no scout and I don't pretend to be one.

But...

When I watch Worley and Hernandez pitch my thought process is, "They don't have any stuff and I'm not seeing any results." I'm having a real hard time figuring out how Worley had such good results his rookie season for Philly. He's obviously not pitching the same way now. Also, I'm glad we traded Liriano because 1/2 of that trade return looks mlb viable at this point and it's not Pedro.

When I watch Pelfrey pitch my thought process is, "He's got some stuff, but he's terribly inconsistent and there's no results."

I can't wait for these three to be replaced by Gibson, Deduno, DeVries or whoever else.

A frustrated Twins fan even more frustrated with what the FO/Ownership tell us is a starting rotation.

I'm having a real hard time figuring out how Worley had such good results his rookie season for Philly.

I would expect that teams didn't plan as much for him as they did with Doc Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Joe Blanton. He had an advantage with his youth because it makes you more of a mystery man. Hitters had not had experience against him and that weighs in the pitcher's favor.

Worley's Road WHIP has also been very high the past two years with a 1.42 in 2011 an a 1.359 WHIP in 2012. Quite simply, he's never been a good pitcher away from Citizen's Bell Park. His 2012 away ERA of 2.98 is a tad misleading with a high WHIP. The transition from the NL to the AL is also difficult on some pitchers. Losing the pitcher as a batter gives the pitcher more legitimate hitters to pitch against (usually).

Worley's overall 4.20 ERA last year was pretty unlucky though (.352 Babip), so there was a bit of legitimacy to thinking he could improve on his numbers last season. There are a few things considered here, but none that I see as significant. The reason why he's regressed wasn't hugely predictable given the stats. It's more of an issue of him losing it and lacking a 3rd pitch.

I didn't expect greatness from Worley but I did expect him to be a decent back of the rotation type guy along with Diamond. I still have hope for him but a trip to minors might not be the worst thing, to get straightened out and/or healthy.
