Minor League Pitchers With Out Clauses Nearing: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

MLBtrade rumors has an article on some minor league pitchers who can opt out in the next month. One name is Sean O'Sullivan who we all love from his days of getting destroyed as a Royals pitcher. But he's still only 25 and he's really having a pretty decent run in (what I believe is) hitter friendly PCL. 2-2, 43ip, 4.19 ERA, 3.27fip, 8.2k/9 3K/BB. He can opt out on 6/1.

I still want Gibson in the rotation but I wouldn't mind adding him, esp if Worley or Pelfrey needs to go to AAA for a bit.

Isn't he just another marginal, middle of the rotation guy? Wouldn't it be better to figure out the 10 or so rotation arms that we already have in the system? If we can start weeding some of them out then I have no problem with O'Sullivan, but I have a sneaky suspicion that by the time the season ends we will still be evaluating our own arms. It seems like Gibson has to be up for an extended chunk this year. I still think Hendriks needs a really prolonged look before we give up on him. Devries, Deduno, and Walters all need a chance to prove that they can stick. Where do we find the innings? Diamond, Correia, and (in my opinion) Worley are all locked in.

I guess I think Sullivan would slot in above De Vries, Deduno and Walters and behind Gibson and maybe Hendriks. But yeah, he's nothing more than a backend starter at best but that still might make him a good fit if we some of our starters get hurt or just pitch really bad.
