The hit in the 4th would probably have been caught last year if the infielders were allowed to stand in the grass. The hit in the 5th went through the hole between first and 2nd where the 3rd infielder on that side would have played last season.

I was there. That hit in the 4th was hit very well, pretty hard, and was over anyone’s head in the infield. It would not have been caught, imo, from watching the game live. His last hit, maybe. That one was possibly helped by no shift, but the earlier one was a good solid hit

I watched the replay again and checked where they were lined up in the 4th on the pitch before Gallo and I think you're right if it was hit any softer it probably would have been caught in the shift but this is where the hit in the 5th went through. Probably an out in 2022.image.png.c1ad9da82f8547016b38b6b58871044f.png

As I said, I’d give you the latter, but the other one I don’t think would have been caught, shift or no shift

I was there today with my wife and two daughters. The Tiger pitcher was in trouble. He walked a batter and Gallo came up. The count was 3-1 and I knew the pitcher would throw a strike right over the plate so as not to walk a second straight batter. I told my daughters to watch this pitch because Gallo was going to smash it over the right field fence, and I pointed to the spot. He did. Now my daughters have a new- found respect for my superior baseball knowledge.

Saw a lady 3 rows in front of me get hit right on top of her head with a foul ball popup behind the Twins' dugout. She bled profusely and was taken away by the medics. I hope she does OK with what will be staples or stitches. Hope she does not have a concussion. I don't know who got the ball. Got to pay attention at a ball- park and cover your head if you are not going to try to catch the ball. A little girl who sat in front of me with her mom, got so scared that they had to leave the game early.

I was there too, and I agree with Squirrel. Gallo is a strong man, who I was against the Twins signing, and I stated so on TD. I have changed my mind after reading many of the posts and articles on TD and seeing his HR and really sharply hit liner past 1B today. In fact I had said in jest in a post the Gallo should bat leadoff, so his strikeout wouldn't kill a rally. I was wrong. I know he probably will strike out more than any of us like, but maybe not. I know think he would be a good leadoff hitter for the Twins, because he is a good, fast baserunner. It also looked like Gallo was asking Tommy Watkins, the 3B coach, if he could steal 2B at one point while Gallo was on 1B.

Babe Ruth called his own shot.  Gallo relies on a fan.  Weak sauce there, Joey.

PS, I impressed Mrs Ash momentarily by making a similar call on Tyler Duffey at a game one time in Pawtucket - can't locate his curveball to save his life - walks a guy - 3 and 1 on the next batter - 'watch this,' I sez. :)

/ edit - I was able to locate the game at b-r.com and of course I totally misremembered the details but hey whatever - there were two HR involved, one to blow the save and one to lose on a walkoff, so it's arguably better than my version of the story, though I know I called one of the HR, probably the last.

I was being a bit funny. Have noticed game day sometimes freezes

I wasn't payin' attention, but yeah, you get some fun intermediate stages if game day encounters something weird, and if some input was poorly considered.

Like spring training not providing pitch data so pitch counts assume minimum 3 pitch k's 4 pitch walks, and one pitch per other outcome. Or it xould be as simple as not all players at spring trainging are listed as on the bench, so whatdya do if a detroit puts the prospect formerly known as Prince in center field. Is the game day program expected to have his batting average and spray charts avaiable?

Sometimes it fails more gracefully than others... as do we all (i feel like some tiny tim phrasing would apt here...)
