Love the golf talk guys. I’m a diehard too and since I’ve retired, I have no excuses about not getting to play enough. I’ll play in the cold or the heat and in the rain (no lightning!), but the body has been rebelling for the last couple years. I hope to play with less pain this year and maybe get a little more distance.

Good luck!

Just tell that body of yours that there's golf to be played.  You can hurt afterwards!

That's why there's a 19th hole.  Or at least that's what I tell myself anyway.

My FIL is 69 and plays to a 4 or 5.  I'm 42 and have a difficult time maintaining my 13-15 handicap.  He's able to play all of the time, I can't play nearly as much as I'd like.

I can only be a weekend warrior for golf so like you I’m perpetually stuck in 13-15 handicap land. All I’d like to do is reduce my variance and shoot 88 more consistently. Last summer my low was 82 and high was 101 🤢

I'm usually content if I break 90 and pretty happy if I shoot mid-80s.  If I shoot in the low 80s I get pissed because a couple less wasted strokes and I could have broken 80!  I mean, I had a lot of fun and I know that I shot well, but I've never broken 80!

I put a whole new set of sticks in the bag last year.  I got out quite a few times early in the season and then basically took two months off and then played a bunch in the fall again.  I played two rounds up at Superior National in July.  The first one I lost 22 balls and quit keeping score because I was so frustrated.  Two days later I shot an 86 and played the entire round with 3 balls.  Same weather conditions.  Two days apart.  Night and day.

My last round of the year, I went out in 50 (yuk...) and came back in with a 38.  Worst/best 88 ever...Hell of a way end a season.

Golf at its finest?

Saw this golf thread, that's supposed to be a ball game thread, and wanted to chime in. I envy you guys. I'd love to be getting my gear ready for the course. Enjoy it while you can. Sad to say my golf days are close to, if not over. Due to my health issues..."Widow-maker" heart attack, thyroid issues, G.I. issues probably from all the meds, arthritis in my neck with some nerve damage into my left shoulder, The list goes on. Seems like something else going wrong with each passing day. I'm old and broken. Paying for the sins of my youth. I'm not looking for sympathy. Don't feel sorry for me, I did it all willingly, and I'm ok with it. Baseball, football, basketball, softball...and of course work, all took their toll on my body. Not much left now. I used to play to a 4 back in college many years ago, in the mid 1970's. Pretty decent with the stix. Won some local tourneys, Won a bunch of work tourneys. Taught many of my friends the game too. Memories of the past. Still played several times a week after moving to Mn back in the early 1980's. Loved every second of it. I've played two rounds in the last three years. Once with my brother in 2021, once with my son last summer, and that was only 9 holes. My clubs sit in the corner of my man cave, just begging me to use them. I don't know if I'll be able to anymore. I'm going to try to get out there at least one more time, and if the good Lord takes me on a golf course, I'll die a happy man. I hope you all have an enjoyable season chasing that little white ball around, and hopefully, the Twins kick some butt this summer too!

Hope you can get out there!  We are probably about the same age, and I’m fortunate to be in good health.  I’d say to others, “If you can play sports, keep at it!”

Also, as a golf and wine enthusiast, I need to find a golf course that also has an onsite winery...

...or a winery with an onsite golf course...

Golf cart with a couch, and winery so you can wine/golf/couch/drunk/best shape of your multi-tasking-life

Good lord willing, I'll be 65 in a few months. Happened to see you're in NY. I grew up in the NY/NJ area, and lived there until 82. Mostly in NJ, but lived in Queens for a time. Was a die hard Mets fan until I moved to MN. Twins all the way now.

I grew up in NJ but always a Twins fan.  Mets and Twins share a LOT of players in common over the years.  It makes for a good trivia question…

Life is a best ball scramble, keeping score is optional

I just learned about this option for our annual 3-par, 18 hole, pitch ‘n putt tournament.  I’m bad at golf, so I can’t wait to try the “best ball scramble”!
