Just think if Royce Lewis really is an all start type player, how much money has has lost and will have lost over the course of his career because of 2 injuries and Covid. Manny at Royce's current age was making 10 plus million a year. Maybe having most of their prospect debuting in their mid 20's can save them hundreds of millions of dollars?

Congrats Manny, you deserve this contract.

To be clear....it is not a deal I would sign. He's a superstar, but that's A LOT of money to pay for a player in their 30s for nearly the entire deal. I would rather sign Soto if I was them.

Pretty sure they fully plan to sign Soto to a similar type deal.  They have a year or two.  Based on the contracts they have been doling out, they have no issue paying guys late into career, and will spread out the money to help with any tax issues.

That is what the service time manipulation issue has been about in the CBA.  Players have been mad for years they get held down in minors for extra year or two, or in some cases even just like 2 weeks to add arbitration year of control. Twins were known for keeping the HS prospects down in minors until they were like 23, even if could have debuted sooner, mainly for keeping cost down.

How does service time manipulation have anything to due with Lewis? He's been hurt, and had his development slowed by circumstance not manipulation.
