What happens to Bally Sports with it's parent company Diamond Sports expecting to file for bankruptcy.

As a "cord-cutter," I haven't been able to watch the Twins since 2019 anyway, so I am all for any movement towards making it easier for folks like me to be able to watch the Twins. They don't even currently have plans to have the Twins as a part of their Bally's Sports + streaming app...

If the regional broadcasts fall apart, I think mlb.com is also hurting because i believe they use the feed from the broadcast.

Here is what Robby Manfraud said at the end about a potential disaster:

"In the event that MLB stepped in, what we would is we would do produce the games. We would make use of our asset, the MLB Network, to do that. We would go directly to distributors -- meaning Comcast, Charter, the big distributors -- and make an agreement to have those games distributed on cable networks. My expectations is that as part of the negotiation, there would be a negotiation over price. And that probably gets back to the question about, you know, what the economics would look like, but we would also be seeking flexibility on the digital side."

Some teams are in for a rude awakening as far as the TV revenue they are going to actually recieve in relation to what they expected when signing big money player contracts.

I've said it a hundred times: there is a lot of money flowing into league coffers from cable subscribers that are paying for baseball they don't want. It's a big reason non-sports fans are cutting the cord, it's a big reason teams want to stay on cable if at all possible, and it's something the cable companies know they need to reduce. I expect the teams like MN that are negotiating new deals to take less cable money in exchange for the rights to sell their games online. It might have to be a big haircut, which means the income from the internet (ie cost to viewers) will be higher than many would like.

Not Sinclair,Bally but a few more teams are looking at losing their coverage by the end of March.

For better or worse, it looks like we will be consuming baseball (and other regional sports) in a very different way soon!

I get the impression the blackouts are a Sinclair/Diamonds thing. Could be wrong... wouldn't be the first time 😄

I believe every MLB franchise gets to blackout a region near to them.  Out west some of those blackout regions are huge in terms of square miles.  Every single spot in the US is blacked out by some team, and many spots are blacked out by multiple teams.  It won't do, to disincentivize coming to the ballpark, or paying the local exclusive broadcaster their due, dontchaknow.
