Has the Twins self destructive thinking affected their fans thinking too?

Recommended Posts

The Twins havent drafted a solid top of the Roto pitcher for a long time. They also think that they dont have to spend money to win even though they havent been able to draft well for a long time. So they have been stuck in neutral for several years now because of their self destructive thinking. Alot of teams sign FAs and have alot fo success with the players they signed. For example Anibal Sanchez has been great so far. Yes theres a risk when dishing out money to get big names but its a risk every good team takes to win, the reward is worth the risk.

The reason I wrote this article is because I see alot of Twins fans starting to think like the Twins. Twins fans havent had the excitement of a big FA signing in forever so they think every FA is just too risky. I see so many people say how its not worth the money to sign a top arm because they could get hurt or they just arent worth it. Thats sad coming from a fan base, who doesnt want a top player. Especialy when your team cant draft, you need to sign a decent pitcher to get better. Whenever a team signs a FA for big money they know the risk, but the reward is worth the risk. After the Twins cut another 20+mil this offseason I thought for sure we could grab Greinke or Sanchez, but we did niether. Now the Twins wierd thinking that has never worked is starting to creep into the minds of Twins fans.

I wasnt even in the camp for Sanchez or Grienke but I was looking at Jeremy Guthrie last yr & was laughed at, even when I tried to support it (velocity is higher than most Twins, ERA solid in hitter friendly Camden Yds, pitches 200 innings yearly, W-Ls are irrelevant to me).

Goin 3 yrs 27m w/him wasnt either risky financially or statistically.

but what if the Twins threw money at player only to have the player spun the offer and go to another team? Just because the Twins didnt sign a big name FA in the offseason doesnt necessarily mean they didnt try.

But I am a person who thinks the Twins will never sign a big names FA because throught most of the franchise history they have never done it. Its in their DNA. (although the Twins did give Joe Mauer about 17 Brinks trucks worth of money in his last contract) So I just dont get hot and bothered about it . Its something I cant really control. Its not like Im a shareholder in the Twins. Does that make me less of a Twins fan? I guess so.

It seems to be the Angels, Blue Jays, and Dodgers who are thoroughly self-destructing. None of them were shy about shelling out the big bucks.

It's not always a winning strategy.

You're right it's not always a winning strategy. It does make you more likely to win though. Nothing in life is certain. But having the odds in your favor is a good thing.

Yes, we get it, this is the 3rd thread I've seen you start that all focuses on the "Twins have to spend big money to be successful" theme.

I would respectfully suggest that not everyone buys into your primary thesis, and that the failure to do so is not a sign that we have been brainwashed or developed a mental illness; it is simply an honest difference of opinion. You may disagree, and that's OK. I'll sleep just fine anyway.:)
