The Twins Can NOT Trade Royce Lewis!

IMO Royce Lewis's value is theoretical until we see how he recovers from his 2nd ACL surgery.  Setting aside the possibility of trading him for veteran talent completely, I'd be a fool not to trade Royce Lewis for a clone of Royce Lewis who has not had two ACL surgeries. Or, you know, a functionally identical player -- let's say another one who seems to have great intangibles.

Who trades away a first round draft pick without giving him a chance?  If he is healthy time to get him up here to see what he can bring.  Way too many assumptions

I agree, anybody can be traded but trading Lewis without giving him more of a look than the 12 game view from 2022 doesn’t make sense! He was the 1st pick with huge upside. Gotta let him play in the Show for 2-3 months at a minimum. He certainly has a place either at 3B or in corner OF going forward!

Gallo - Taylor - Kepler are all gone in 2024.

Lewis & Martin……..Larnach - Gordon - Buxton are the probable OF in 2024.

Lewis or just about anyone for a Top 10 arm is always a potential option…….doubt Royce isn’t playing in Minnesota for many years to come if he can produce as expected.

Lewis will be at 3rd, correa=SS and Lee will be at 2nd. Miranda will move to DH/1B/3B and Kirilloff will be 1b.  This is going to be the starting infield probably 2024 or 2025. That is what i hope anyway.  Martin/Julien/Polonco will be traded for reliver/SP at deadline/offseason.

Hoping it is this season so we can see what they have now.  All the speculations are driving me crazy!  If they don't work out this year probably not going to ever IMO.

I don't know if this is meant to be a subtle shot at the FO or not, but the Twins traded Chase Petty (first round pick) for Sonny Gray last year.

Sorry, wasn't clear.  Lewis was the #1 draft pick in the first round in 2017.  It isn't often a team gets the first pick in the first round.  After 6 years it is time to figure it out once and for all.  I could be wrong but not sure he has much value.

Chase Petty was #26 and the Twins only have 2 years invested.

The assumptions are on both sides here. I don't think anyone is suggesting to just trade him away for little return. If a team is willing to overpay and hand over an ace pitcher, it's something to consider. Anyone can be traded ... for the right price. I don't think anyone is suggesting he should be shopped, but, if someone came knocking, I'd hear them out. I'm not sure Royce falls into the 'untouchable' category, but the offer had better be outstanding and something they couldn't refuse to do it.

Does he have enough value to even get a starting pitcher as of now?  Not being sarcastic just curious.

Not sure. Probably not. But if someone were to offer a front-end starter, I’d listen. Right, I know. I’m playing make believe, so it’s not happening, but that’s kind of my point, and I think the point others are making. I wouldn’t shop him, and I don’t think anyone would, but if someone called with an offer I couldn’t refuse? I’d have to consider it … wouldn’t you? That’s really all I meant. For me, no one is untouchable, but with Lewis, as I said, I wouldn’t be shopping him, but if someone called and made an awesome offer, I’d have to consider it.. Especially since the Twins won’t go out and sign such a pitcher.

i don't know.  He's had two acl surgeries back to back.

To me it’s all about the training and then his mechanics! Yes he has the tools the heart! But his training habits have hurt him I hear! His ACL repairs are what they are repairs but if he continues to the same regiment on training it’s going to happen again! The main question is will the training staff help him with strengthening his muscles without screwing around with his mechanics?? That’s what happened to Rivas!! Body structure will play a big part. I hope the twins see that as his trade value is very low!! Go!! Twins!!! Go!!’

I hope so as well.  He's a tremendous talent the twins need him desperately.

Important distinction: A team most likely needs a pitcher to pitch like an ace for the duration of the postseason to seriously contend for a world series title.

That increases the subset of possibilities. My take would be the Twins may well have  a few of those types of pitchers currently.
