The Twins cannot trade Arraez

Joe and Rod had a position.   Arreaz doesn't really pay any position great.

It is curious that MLB just did feature on the top 10 1st basemen… Arreaz came in at #9. I’d say he has a position.

I think the thing being missed with Arraez is that he clearly has a degenerative knee issue. He started as a 2B/3B/OF and has went to maybe a 2B and now is maybe a 1B. This has happened in too short period of a time to think he has any longevity.

So, his value is as high as it's going to get AND it's going to go down substantially in the next two years.

Duran's value is high AND it's going to go higher.

I'm fine with keeping Arraez as well, but to expect him to be a significant contributor for very much longer doesn't seem wise.

Good analysis. Thanks.

You are absolutely nuts!

Did you see Royce Lewis play last year?

The Twins were so excited by his numbers they desperately tried to get him in the lineup. In doing so, they played him out of position and may possibly destroyed his career! He has the potential to be a superstar & is worth far more than Arraez will ever be!

I wouldn't trade anyone  for Lopez or any mid level starter at this point. Arraez & Kepler + a prospect for a top notch starter - you bet!

Arraez is fun to watch with a bat in his hand, but is a one tool player with no power, no speed, weak defense and bad knees. He is not Tony Gwynn & a 313 batting title doesn't compare at all to Aaron Judge 312 Ave AND 60 HR.

You mean mlb helping Judge to get there by feeding him the lesser known "goldilocks balls" to boost his performance. Judge's record will forever be scarred and tainted; and any real record book should and will have an asterisk by it. How many of those "hits" and home runs would have been fly outs if he was using the balls the rest of the league got. I know Aaron Judge didn't have control over what balls were thrown his way, and he is a very good if not great player, but his average may not have been nearly as close as it was to Arraez's  if he was allowed to be thrown deadened balls or balls on the other side of the goldilocks balls two thirds of the time down the stretch. Would Judge have even hit .300 or would he have finished around .298? Again non of this is Judge's fault but one could make a compelling case that the mlb nudged him to the record. I normally wouldn't bring this up but as a Twins fan when something like this happens and players at Yankee Stadium or other large maket teams are given special treatment it Irks me. The league needs to use ONE uniform ball. Not two, not three, but ONE!

End rant

They can’t and here is why.

1. He won a batting title. Did the Twins trade Joe Mauer and Rod Carew? No! Why trade Arraez?
2. I have been browsing around the forums and I have seen multiple people comparing Arraez’s hitting to Tony Gwynn. If you had Tony Gwynn on your team would you trade him? No probably not. If they end up trading him for Pablo Lopez it would probably end up being one of the worst trades in franchise history. So here is my proposal for Pablo Lopez

Twins get: Pablo Lopez

Marlins Get: Max Kepler, Emilio Pagan, Austin Martin, and Royce Lewis

Thoughts?

Agree about not trading Arraez for Lopez & the Twins already said they wouldn't do that. No way would I trade those 4 players for Lopez.

Maybe the Twins should consider trading Polanco.  Arraez plays a good 2nd base.  Turns the DP as well as anyone. And he can play other places on the field (not sure he really should have been in the "top 10" at first base, but that's where he played, the most, in '22).

We love Polanco, but his value is less than the value of Arraez.

tony gwynn is dead so i think his trade value is only marginally higher than emilio pagan's. that trade is awful.

Twins MUST trade Arraez! If not they will be a sub 500 team again. He has no real position and doesn't turn all those singles into doubles like Ichiro did because he can't run. Get pitching! Your trade is not even worth discussing. To much talent given up. Kepler will be back with the new shift rule!

Terrible analogy. Duran showed us his floor last year. This is Arraez’ ceiling.

Not necessarily.  Arraez's stats have been steadily climbing particularly the extra base hits and his homerun's have been creeping upwards from almost non existence and he's still only 26.  Plenty of time for him to continue to grow.  Arreaz is a good player and he's off to one heck of a start if you ask me.

I say trade him. Now is the best time to trade because he is at the highest value right now. It's extremely possible that his knees give out this season. Also, we have Martin, Lewis, and Julien in the waiting to take over. Arraez has no defense, no pop in his bat, no speed, and no true spot on this team. Martin and Lewis at least have the fact that they can play in the OF to help them gain spots on this team. Julien, yes, is weak on defense, but has the bat to back it up.

MLBTR says the Twins are also getting two prospects, one of which is Jose Salas a 19 year old IF, Miami's 4th/5th rated prospect, the other is Byron Chourio, a 17 year old OF. According to BTV this deal is weighted heavily in favor of the Twins, so far. I'm very curious who else the Twins had to include to make this deal happen.

You can watch and tell that he has no range or instinct.    He didn't commit errors but he didn't do anything but the bare minimum out there.   He is a light hitting DH

Twins didn't have to add anything.
