Trade for Chris Sale, Pablo Lopez, sign Bauer...

... throw it all at wall and see what sticks.

?

Seriously though... could you get 5 deep all season with (I have my doubts):

Bauer

Lopez

Gray

Sale

Mahle

Ryan

Maeda

Ober

Let Rocco do his thing. Rather than 5 pitchers, you got 8 to get your 900 innings. Ha!

Sorry... was just thinking of the most wild thing that they could do right now. Maybe Wacha in place of one.

Bauer. No thanks. Without Gerrit Cole's secret sticky stuff recipe to success he's average at best with an ex girlfriend type of attitude..There's good reason why all these team decided he wasn't worth the trouble.

Lopez. Yep

Sale. What's it gonna cost?

Overall yeah that'd probably be the best rotation (on paper) I've ever seen on the Twins. Just no Bauer..Drama queens ,amongst other things, not needed.

Although I wish they would sign Bauer, sounds like they've made it clear they will not show interest in him. Could that change? Yes.

Adding Lopez and Bauer alone would give you one of the top rotations in the AL.

Sale would definitely push you into 'best team in the AL' discussion.

It's definitely an off the wall idea, I've seen each of these names thrown out on this forum over the past few weeks.

As you all know, 6 or 7 man rotations can easily be 2 by the season's end. Heck, the Dodgers going into the season with Bauer in 2021 were looking like an over-crowded rotation. By season's end only 2 starters had not missed time at some point.

And, of course, last season our Twins were trying to figure out how to accommodate 6 starters after the trade for Paddack (who I also like).

If not these 8, perhaps a few changes but conceptually, I wonder if it could work. Seems like it could be a unique situation with this group, because some may be on an innings limit as they return from significant missed time last year. Piggy backing some of these guys could work.

Or it could be a colossal failure.

Anyway, it was more meant for fun than a serious idea. And I agree on Bauer. I'd have attitude concerns.

I like the idea behind Sale, and the upside is grand. Plus they could do the whole buy a prospect thing by accepting Sale's full contract and taking that little dude Rafela. He seems like an Ozzie Albies kind of guy. That way if Sale just keeps on having a crummy elbow/shoulder relationship they still get something out of the effort.

I agree with you on Sale. He's been one of my favorite players in baseball since his rookie year. There was a thread duscussing it last week and the general consensus was that most in this forum didn't want him.

I think it was in response to an article that Nick Nelson wrote.

I think Boston is open to trading him, but it would all depend on the distribution of salary.

True and a fallback for him could eventually be a strong bullpen arm.

Bauer, no. Sale, no. Lopez, definite yes. The twins rotation already has a lot of good pieces it just needs one or two more pieces and I think I would rather have Michael Wacha or a different FA instead of Sale. He has literally pitched 50 innings the past two years and is projected at 67 for 2023. I do not want to trade pieces for a starter that throws the same amount of innings as a reliever. Here is my proposal

Lopez

Ryan

Mahle

Gray

Wacha

Ober

Trade Maeda and Paddack. Paddack gets injured a lot and Maeda is 34 and is just coming off of TJ surgery. I know Wacha and Gray are around the same age but they are really consistent with their performances and I know what to expect. Mahle, Ryan, Lopez is a really good top 3, and with Ober picking it up I think that this might be better in the long run.

Why is anyone even suggesting Bauer. A number of teams are on the record as being "uninterested" in Bauer. This list includes the Twins. The Twins signing Aaron Judge and Jacob deGrom was far more likely (.001%) than any consideration of bringing in Bauer (0%).

Reasons why:

1.   He won the NL Cy Young in 2020.

2.   He can be signed for the MLB minimum.

3.   If he acts up or doesn’t produce (after a 2 year layoff), he can be DFAed without a big financial hit.

I have more!

Hard no on Sale. He hasn't been healthy in years. The last time he threw anything close to a full season was 27 starts for 158 innings in 2017, posting fewer than 50 total innings since 2019.  Oh, and he's slated to make $55m over the next TWO years.

If you didn't notice the piece on MN Nice elsewhere on the site, take a moment to consider how that can be reconciled with bringing in Trevor "She asked for it" Bauer. He is not the guy for a team that takes pride in its community image.

No means no. When someone emphatically says no or just tells one no, that means no. Acceptance of no is a vital part of living. The Twins have said no. I get why some people initially suggested looking into signing Bauer. It isn't important if i agree or disagree with the reasons or whatever. The Twins said no and I accept that.

Hardest of "no's" to both of them.

One beats up women and calls it consensual. The other ones cuts up his uniform in front of team mates because he doesn't like required uni of the day.

Most of you played sports and understand clubhouse/locker-room milieu. Would you want them in yours? Twins have healthy one with leadership there now. Correa, Polanco, Vazquez (pitching staff development, game prep, solid attitude). Not a boat to be rocked.
