Article: Twins Minor League Report (5/8): Gibson Shows He's Ready

Recommended Posts

I understand why Gibson didn't come up right away, but he is at a point where the Twins should want to see if he is a major league starter or not. Pedro Hernadez is a spot starter/long reliever at best, while Gibson is a #2 starter. The Twins should be wanting to figure out if he will be that #2/#3 starter for 2014 or will they have to move him to the pen and look at other options for 2014. If they are serious about his 130 IP limit then it is completely stupid to say tear up AAA before you get your chance.

It was the perfect time to do so, (except for Hernadez's sister dying), but the bullpen had been taxed, so you bring up a Thielbar or a Wood to sit in the pen for a few days to give help and then when its Gibson's turn in the rotation you send them down (or someone else), and everything is dandy.

Why do I get the impression that Hernadez is the Jason Tyner who shouldn't be on the major league roster but to prove a point to someone they keep marching him out there.

Unless Gibson absolutely implodes, which there has been absolutely no sign of at any point in his career, he'll be in the Twins rotation in 2014. Whether he pitches 50 innings or 100 innings this year for the Twins won't affect his plans for 2014 or ultimately his career. He is going to get pretty much all of 2014 to show what he can do.
