  1. 1. If the Twins actually do sign Correa, what will be your reaction?

    • I will dance, and sing, and leap for joy, and I don't care who is watching
    • I will break down and sob happy tears
    • I will refuse to believe it, because, I just can't
    • I will break down and sob sad/mad tears
    • I will scream: OMG, THEY DID WHAT??? ARE THEY FREAKIN' CRAZY???
    • I will analyze the cost effectiveness and shake my head, 'Great, another Mauer-like contract'
    • I won't say anything but years down the road I will say 'See, I told you so!' regardless the outcome, just so I look smart
    • I don't care, just stop this roller coaster!
    • Rally Monkey, because, eh, I'm too worn out.
    • Good luck with that; he's still a cheater and Dior arrogant
    • Wait ... really? Does this mean he'll be at the Winter Meltdown?

I said that I would  "dance, and sing, and leap for joy, and I don't care who is watching" ...

But then, I do that every night before the nurses administer my meds.  ?

Lol … I was in the hospital a few year back with pancreatitis. Have to say, if I weren’t hooked up to stuff, the morphine for sure would have made me do that. Instead all I was left with was singing. Pretty sure I did a little of that. I don’t really remember

I'll jump for joy! 2 years ago when Correa was about to become a free agent, I really wanted the Twins to sign Correa but didn't believe that TC could ever afford him never mind sign him. And once they signed him he was a joy to watch play, just like Buck, Arraez & Polanco are exciting but at an even higher level due to making more highlight reel plays.. (After all, Buck is often injured) Now I've been spoiled and it would be a real victory to snag Correa to a long term deal with the addition of Lewis, Kirilloff, Duran, Lopez & others.

Since the Twins are going to have new hats, uniforms & logos, some of questionable beauty, then they'd better have some exciting players wearing them. Otherwise the new uniforms will make it look like the Twins are just trying to cover up the stink of losing.

Correa can attract some new players to sign with Minnesota and some new enthusiastic young fans from around the country & the world to root for the Twins. That would be a win-win for the Twins & the future of baseball.

Yeah, can’t imagine he’ll get 10 yrs anywhere. But I’d go 8/285.

I agree I would like to stay away from 10 years as those last three years could easily be negative value.  I still think you need to find a way for him to potentially reach that 300M number though so would add a team option at the end to get to 300M with a 10M buyout or something.

I think the issue the Mets have is they need\want to go twelve years to spread out the AAV and given the leg issue that contract is very unlikely to age well.  I think the closer the Twins can get to a 7 year length the better and I like your 8 year proposal.  I would modify it slightly and go 8/270 with an option for for a 9th year at 35M and a 10M buyout.  That gets him to a potential 305M total contract value and a notable 33M per year AAV.  He has a good chance to be productive the next 5 to 6 years baring injury and with the Twins potentially off the hook in year 8 that's not a bad deal for both sides IMO.  I would give him opt outs in years 5,6 and 7 and would not give a no trade clause but would give him a list of teams he could not be traded to.

Correa has been a consistently good player and it is going to take 30M per year to sign him and as I said earlier likely 300M in total to get a deal done.  Even with the leg issue he should be fine the next 5 years so if the Twins can stay way from a ten year commitment then I would be happy to have Correa on this team to solve shortstop for the next several years.  His big bat would be welcome and it would allow the team time to work in the younger guys coming up from the farm.

I was also in the hospital for pancreatitis a few years back. I just remember the really weird dreams coming off of morphine. Really weird.

Yeah, I admit it would be nice to have Buxton, Correa, and Dobnak all locked up long-term. ?

It depends on the money, obviously. And Correa seems ticketed for third base soon. I think the Twins have all the leverage.*  Boras really blew it and at this point Correa’s value should be discounted deeply. So my reaction does depend on the final terms wherever he lands (I’m still betting The Fellowship signs him)

* still bidding against the Mets I presume

If he moves to third, that makes miranda a 1B (probably his better position), then the question is Arreaz.  Arraez can play 1B, but I really don't think he is great there either.   This could all happen when Lewis is back (with the hypothetical signing of Correa).

Still the matter of Lewis doing what the scouts-projections say he can do.

F. Other; really depends upon the parameters of said contract. Had they been making other offseason moves to boost our depth/quality in other places, and got away from the '10 years' nonsense (unless the price comes down), I guess I'd still be 'ok' with it, but it wouldn't really excite me much because what did we do with him last year in what should be his prime years, didn't get us there.  I hate to say "we all know" here, but we all know if they do sign him to a long term deal, that's the only 'big time' FA we will have on this team, and we'd need to see a LOT of 'growth' and 'development' from who we currently have to 'grow our own' (underpaid per performance) stars enough to really be a threat.

Opt outs on both sides? That's not a contract, just a love letter.

Well a 5 year love letter is fine with me,  It's not my money though? . I just really hope Lewis can come back asap and be the man, pretty much what Jeremy Peña has done so far.
