Rumor: Ace Available in Trevor Bauer?

No way. If our FO hands out a contract to Bauer, I never watch another Twins game. That would be a horrible signing and Bauer needs to just go away. For those that think signing a contract with a cheater is bad, this would be a thousand times worse. Just no, I can forgive a lot, but this I couldn’t and wouldn’t.

Recent reports (as recently as earlier tonight) have the Dodgers ready to cut him loose and eat his money. It should probably say a lot that they have no desire to keep him.

The Twins FO isn't exactly on the best of terms with the fan base right now, and picking up a guy with his reputation as a person and teammate doesn't sound like the way to get fans back on their side.

I'll be pretty darn surprised if he gets a deal with any team. Ever. I'd bet his career is over. He's into his 30s now, has a terrible reputation from multiple organizations (even wasn't liked in college), openly admitted to using "sticky stuff" during his amazing 2020 season, and hasn't been on a major league mound in a year and a half, but continued to shoot off his mouth and poke MLB over social media. Can't imagine there's too many owners willing to take on that PR nightmare for a guy who's been more average to good than great over his career.

Concur. Strongly.

I hope none of you proclaiming Bauer the worst human ever have any Puckett memorabilia.

I may not know the full back story.  Not expressing an opinion on Bauer or whether he should be given another chance.

But, come on.  There’s a statue outside of our stadium gates of a guy who viciously beat and strangled his wife with a phone cord.  He cornered and sexually assaulted a waitress in a restaurant bathroom and got the star treatment out of being convicted by a jury (and if you have the stones to do that, likely not a one time thing).  Fairly common knowledge that he’s a womanizer and beater, sexual deviant, and impulsive substance addict/abuser.

Some worked up about Bauer likely have a picture with Puckett’s statue in the archive of the social media du jour.

Stones, glass houses, etc.  Not seeing the merit in trying to virtue signal and claim a moral high ground while worshipping Puckett like a god.  You get zero social credit points.

Way to ‘whatabout’ the situation. Let’s stop that right now and judge Bauer on his own merits, and lack thereof. This thread isn’t about anyone else but him.

Well I guess if you want a club house cancer Bauer is a good bet.  His own team mates on the Dodgers wanted the FO to get rid of him even before the issue that got him suspended.  If the Dodgers don't want him back I pity the team that grabs him.

Maybe his ordeal was a wake up call, hard to say but old dogs are hard to change.  I do believe in second chances but given the circumstances I don't think the Twins can take that kind of chance as they are about a little over a year after struggling with club house vibs of there own.

Bauer would be a pass for me.

Squirrel, I agree with you 100%.

I wouldn't come watch any professional games. I only watch college sports.  Owners, Players and agents are greedy.  Their players' salaries are out of the control.    I don't buy any sport memorabilia.  Good Grief!

No one is trying to get points but you.

No more of this nonsense. If you want Bauer, say you want Bauer and leave it at that. Shaming people who don't want him for the obvious reasons is not going to be tolerated here.

It is a big no for me Dog.  I am all for second chances in life, but he has always been someone that rub people the wrong way.  What he was accused of is terrible, and he will do it again most likely, and it was likely not the first and only time, assuming he did what accused of.  He is not someone teammates have ever liked, I mean a playoff team traded him away when he was supposed to be their number 1.  There is more than just they needed a bat, and had pitching depth.  It was we do not want this guy around anymore.

No. No. No.   People make mistakes, and I'm not opposed to second chances, but Bauer has a history of questionable behavior. It's not just one incident. He would be an unwelcome distraction. There is also the question of whether he's really that good of a pitcher.

What playoff team traded him away when he was their #1 pitcher? The Guardians had Bieber and Clevinger in 2019, both of whom were better. They also had Kluber in 2019, a 2 time cy young award winner. The Guardians also traded Lindor, and Clevinger so I guess by that logic teammates didn't like them either?

Wow, these responses are harsh. Cleveland Browns and NFL fans sure seem to be welcoming to 30 sexual assault lawsuits Deshaun Watson.  Not that I personally would want Deshaun Watson on the vikings either but there's a double standard from what I see.

The only double standard I see is in your post.

I can't imagine anyone here who doesn't want Bauer, would want Watson on their team either.

There's a Vikings thread in "Other Sports" forum. Go search through that and see how Watson was thought of around here.

And perhaps you conveniently missed them, but the Browns fans have held protests regarding Watson all season long.

It's not a double standard when you're comparing 2 completely separate fan bases.

And, as mentioned above, this thread is about Bauer and the Twins, not Watson and the Browns. Let's just stick to Bauer and the Twins.

One of the big reasons I was always glad I was a Herbie Fan!

I don't understand why some people do this?  We are talking about Bauer.  Why would anyone assume a double standard?  It's funny how this statement throws the entire planet under the bus because the Browns "welcomed" Deshaun Watson as is said here.  Bauer is a 100% no, as would be anyone, who has done anything like Bauer...anyone.

To all of the people claiming that it's about Bauer and only Bauer that's a pretty big cop out from a bunch of people that pretty much compare everyone and everything in baseball on this forum.  Bauer to Puckett is a fair comparison.  But it's a different comparison.  So for instance, had Bauer never done anything wrong in his career and he came to Minnesota, played 10 years and helped the Twins win a couple of world Series titles and then, after his career was over, he went and did some horrible acts how could you hold the Twins accountable at that point in time?  I mean had Puckett done all of those terrible things in say 1989, I doubt that the Twins would have worked so hard to resign him at that point in time, they probably would have let him walk when he became a free agent.  Now that we already know what Bauer has done and been accused of, the Twins already know what they would be getting into and any reasonable person would steer away from that kind of controversy.  So yes they are similar, but also no because the timing is way way different.  Some team out there will take a chance on him and he may implode or he might right the ship and fix his life.  But it will probably be one of those teams that can afford to make a mistake like this and just move on.  Like the Yankees, or the Mets, some big spending team that can easily cut bait when something doesn't seem right.  I mean the Dodgers are going to do it.  They took a chance, it didn't work out they walk away from it.  Twins have a tough time doing those kinds of things.  So there is about a zero percent chance the twins go after him and rightly so.

I live in LA. I would be very surprised if Bauer plays for the Dodgers ever again. Most likely will be unceremoniously released. Pretty much hated in the clubhouse here, heard the same things about him in Cleveland. I know he can pitch but the Twins aren't one guy away from the World Series.  PIus, he hasn't pitched in 2 years. Let's just stay away.
