Rumor: Carlos Rodon Signs with the New York Yankees

It is wearisome that the Twins can't (means won't) compete in the MLB FA marketplace. Seems that every team with realistic World Series aspirations adds a big FA at least once or twice every few years. The Twins need a new way of looking at success and the pursuit thereof - it's broke and needs to be fixed.

They can compete for the second tier players. Unfortunately, most of those are now gone also....while they waited on CC? I'm not sure what the deal is. They also passed on the second tier of FAs last year, so maybe it isn't about CC....but signing only inexpensive players in FA, then dealing prospects every spring (they are going to run out of prospects if this is the plan).

Lost in all this, what happened to our local reporters? Why aren’t we getting info on what the hell is going on via tough questions to those in charge?

Seemed in past years we’d at least get some crumbs tossed our way.

hahahahahahahaha. Good one. Tough questions. I am still laughing.

Not at all surprised Rodon to the Yankees, and not really disappointed he's not a Twin.

I don't think he would have been a good gamble  nor do I think it was realistic to think he would come here when he had other options.

I don't think it makes sense to dump a ton of money into Swanson either.

JD Martinez, and some serious bullpen help. Pray for health and help from the minors, and thwt 90 wins takes the ALC.

And set about fixing the fact free agents don't want to come to Minnesota.  Not sure how, but that's an issue.

You left out locking up Randy Dobnak with the only contract longer than 2 years they have given to a pitcher.

I laughed out loud. The Dobber could come back. Did Dick Bremer say that? How could I forget? I wonder if the Twins will forget to decline his three option years because they forgot about him too. A little $21.5 M extra for Dobnak. Now that would be sweet.

Tough or not, Wolfson and E Neal have provided nothing but silence. Are they still covering the Twins? Is Dan Hayes, who’s with The Athletic, all we got now?

LEN 3 is the new Patrick Reusse for the Star Tribune. No longer a beat writer, just a columnist. Dan Hayes, Aaron Gleeman, Betsy Helfand, Do-Hyoung Park. That’s what we got.

Edit: Also, we’ve never, ever had a beat writer ask the tough questions. It’s always been a country club at 1 Twins Way.

Why aren't TD owners/writers asking tough questions?

Arms are just a dime a dozen? Rodon would not have moved the needle on a Twins rotation? Internal...reclamations..Rule 5 acquistions are the key to building a sustainable, winning franchise? And a few shrewd trades.

Go Twins!

And the proof of that is the Twins record the last  5 years, oh wait.....

You sound like you're listening to Dan Barreiro too much. Never take your cues from a guy who targets players based on whether they come on to his show or not, thinks that walks don't matter for hitters, and uses RBIs as his most important hitting statistic.

With the exception of Correa the Twins have never been able to land a big time, top tier FA.  It was remarkable that we did last year.  But I'm all in with the philosophy that if the Twins will never truly be players for the upper tier, we should be swimming in the 2nd tier where you have to be serious bidders but some tremendous signings can be found.  Nellie Cruz was one of those signings.  This FO has never seemed to have any kind of "plan" going into the off season.  And when the music stops, they are chasing after bargain basement players like Shoemaker, Happ, Bundy and Archer.  We will have to live and die on our prospect capital, and occasionally trade from that capital to fill a needed weak spot.  Looking ahead, one thing is clear to me.  We won't be in the Ohtani sweepstakes next year.  If 2023 bombs it would be great to see a new FO.  But the Pohlads always move very slowly.

I wonder if Rodon was waiting to see if the Twins got Correa before making his decision? Probably not but coincidently he signs with another club almost immediately after Correa goes elsewhere. If you don't land big fish once in a while the other big fish are going to keep swimming past you. It's all about committment. To putting a winning team on the field. Yankees sign Judge, Twins don't sign Correa. Rodon chooses ? The big spenders are Contenders. The Twins are Pretenders.

Time to burn it all to the ground. Can’t force Pohlads to sell but can bring in a FO with a pulse and a plan.

The most embarrassing offseason in years. Only way to improve team now is decimate the 23rd ranked farm system.
wow, just wow

Same old thing every year, fans start out with expectations (not high) but expectations.   We watch players go off the table and then have to wait for the scraps.  I 100% knew Correa would not stay as I am sure the front office did so they could say or at least put on the appearance of trying.

I was so disappointed when they let Cruz go.  Not sure if he even wanted to stay.  I bet it is the dream of every decent Twins player to get traded.  Probably the equivalent of being promoted from AA to the MLB.   I get frustrated when I see “trade Arraez for….” posts.   He is a batting champion!!!!!

Since there have been reports that Rodón preferred to go to the Yankees, another team may have had to beat this deal at least by a bit — I'm not sure I would have wanted the Twins to go higher on both dollars and years, but $1M more per year, or a 7th year on its own? Sure, that seems reasonable, especially considering what they were willing to offer Correa.

Reports were mainly that he wanted to go to a winner, which is why he didn't even really give the Giants a shot.

I sure hope the Twins offered more than 6/162. That's a very reasonable contract for a pitcher who is one of the Top 10 SPs in MLB per IP.
