I mean, Swanson and Rodón together would probably be a better outcome than just Correa. But then again, trading for Judge, Sherzer, Ohtani, and Gerrit Cole would definitely be better than either of those and seems just about as likely to actually happen.

You do know we can never do any of those, right?

Yeah, you are totally correct even if the rumor that they are still in hard on both is true.

Having said that, desperate people do desperate things and our FO is looking pretty darn desperate right now. Besides, what a great way for Nephew Joe to make a big splash out of the gate. Maybe his uncles give him a Christmas gift.

I doubt the FO is feeling desperate. They just made a huge offer that was simply outbid.  Los Gigantes signing Correa for $65M over everyone else's bid -- remember other teams, including the Yankees dropped out prior to the Twins -- and for 13 years!  Look to the Tigers with Miguel Cabrera for what an aging star is like at the end of their contract.

The FO will move on.  The Twins were in first place last season until the team was decimated by injuries.  Most of those players will be back. Rodón signing would be great if it can be done.

What if the Twins new strategy is to buy high and short?  They paid CC high AAV for the short-tern.  They got his services and then got all that financial flexibility back when he left.

If the Twins offer Rodon and Swanson 3 years or less with opt outs at a much higher AAV than other teams are offering, those two might just take it assuming they could get another payday in a few years.

Yes, I totally agree with this. Rodon won't do it as this is his one chance to get money as there's always the possibility of getting injured. But for Swanson, this could be perfect. Overpay him at two years for $70 million, giving him an opt out after one year. By that time, Lewis and Lee have to be ready to take over at SS. Then, you don't have the long-term potential of dead money and can have financial flexibility again.

Signing either to a long term contract will not only be this years big commitment but also the big commitment for the next several years. Is either that pivotal player? They aren’t going to be signing a 25-30 million free agent every year.

any year apparently, not to a long term deal. And, they passed on all the ST deals this year for great players.....

Move onto what? Tier 3 level FAs? Are those actually better than what is on the roster?
