Ok, now what?

I'm immensely frustrated this morning. This is a bit stream of conscious, so heads up:

This might be sour grapes at this point, but I don't know how the team will proceed in meaningful way after Correa has signed elsewhere.

I don't have much faith that Dansby will scratch the itch of the fanbase, and even if they get Dansby and Rodon, it seems like a fools errand to try and replace what they had HOPED C4 would be for the remainder of his career. All that said, I have legitimately no faith that they will sign either.

Additionally, I've never felt worse about being a "non-mega market" fan in that these contracts are simply outrageous, and virtually impossible for anyone aside from the coastal juggernauts to sign.

I don't see how the team can meaningfully pivot at this point and accomplish anything near to what they had hoped to achieve with CC. Say they whiff on Dansby and Rodon (I suspect they will), a full scale rebuild might be the only meaningful path forward, I'm afraid. Any significant trade would require giving up current building blocks that would further stunt the chances at meaningfully competing.

I'm tired, and I'm bummed. The rich get richer and the frustrated get more frustrated.

GP380, what would you do if you were in CC's feet?   Take it or decline it?   Make your pick!

I am very tired to see the rich get richer and richer every year.  Those players want more and more money.  Too many people are hungry and homeless.  That's why I decided to stop watch any professional games on tv,  I only watch college games on tv.

Huh ... and what of the owners? The advertisers? This shouldn't all be lumped on one group. Professional sports involves gross amounts of money. ALL the owners roll in it, way more than the players, and some are worse than others at hoarding the wealth not caring one iota about the team or its fans. I don't blame the players for wanting a big cut of that, but I do wish that there was more parity all around ... between owners and teams and between players. I'm glad I'm not a Pittsburgh fan ... or I wouldn't be anymore.

I don’t get the plan honestly. They fixated on Correa who seemed destined to get the second biggest contract this year. Turner got 300 and the twins didn’t even offer that.

I can’t imagine they actually thought they had a chance with that contract offer.
They seem to want to offer contracts to the top FAs but are unwilling to overpay, which is the only way you’re going to get these players.

They missed a ton of FA talent by waiting on something that was never gonna happen and after that sad offer there’s no way Rodon or Swanson get done which means the only way to improve the team again is addition through subtraction. Weakening an already weak farm system which they can’t afford to do every year. They’re not good enough at drafting talent to do so.

I’m not surprised they lost, but I’m confused that their offer was so bad.

To be clear, I'm not mad at the contract. I think that the market is what the market is, at this point. I'm frustrated that looking at what the market is, the powers that be don't just say "I guess that's what the going rate is on this thing that we so desperately need. Good thing we're billionaires" and gotten it done. The fact that other teams are just paying the price is so frustrating.

Not really, imo. But we will see. I mean, there are a lot of people on these boards that don't want them to spend big bucks because Lewis and Lee are going to be superstars, so, we play the game, once again, of waiting for the future to arrive

This was one of the best FA classes of recent. Take a look at next years class. Yikes

If they don’t spend this year when are they going to? There is no benefit to fans or the team in saving money

When was the last time a twins prospect became a SS lol? I don’t really get why people think that prospects are always going to become superstars. Lee has played pro baseball less than a year and Lewis has two major injuries in 2 years. Also most people think neither will play good enough defense at SS

That was my point. We can't keep playing for the future, but without having signed Correa, that's what we are left with. And there were many on these boards opposed to signing Correa because we have Lewis and Lee. You can see many of my responses to that.

Which I think is silly. SS is the hardest position to find someone who can hit and play defense. If Lee and Lewis can hit then the twins can find somewhere for them to play or they can trade them for someone who fits better. The twins need to be better at developing talent but nothing so far makes Me think that’ll improve

As I said, I don't disagree. I've been pretty consistent in saying the same thing. But we are where we are now. We don't have Correa.

Bah... it sucks, but I'm already over it. I would have been pissed if they gave him that much. Correa is good. Really good, but not great. I always wondered if they'd be better off with 2 or 3 above average players (or better than Polanco, Larnach, Kepler, etc..) than with Correa, and save a ton of money to boot.

This team will only succeed if a large number of their players have great years. With or without Correa. Last year the opposite happened. If Buxton plays, and he, Larnach, AK, Kepler, Polanco, Farmer, Miranda, all combined with a batting average of .275 or higher... this team wouldn't need Correa. If they continue to fail to hit, Correa won't make a difference anyway.

I'm a little more bummed that now they don't have Urshela.
