Rumor: Twins among teams 'seriously in play' for Rodon

The wheels on the bus go round and round...

The Carlos Rodon question continues to persist, with the starting pitcher being linked to several teams, including the Twins. Dan Hayes of The Athletic went as far to imply it's likely the Twins will end up with "one of the Carlos", whether that ends up being Rodon or Correa.

Of course, teams like the Giants and Yankees are also in play, which is terrifying in this spend-happy offseason.

So, he prefers the Yankees ... does that mean if he doesn't go there, he's going to have a piss poor attitude a la Lance Lynne from a few years ago when he doesn't get what he wants?

That said, he'll be going to the Yankees.

Maybe it will be more of the Ricky Nolasco attitude.

Either way, it's complete crap that the Yankees have all the money, yet likely don't have to spend nearly as much as the other teams to get certain players because those players will take a discount to play for them.

Is it ****possible**** that the Twins have repeatedly allowed themselves to be used by Boras as a threatening weapon to boost his clients' interests because both the Twins and Correa/Boras have already come to the understanding that Correa will be coming back to Minnesota?

Because if they are being used unwillingly for his clients who have zero intention of coming here, they really need to call it out publicly. If he's not going to scratch their back, they need to stop scratching his.

Who leaks that the player prefers Team One but Teams Two and Three are in play? Not Team One. Not the other two teams.

The player's agent? Why do they want to tell Team One to keep lowballing them?

Yes.

emmm, yes.

ermmmm, yeah.

See, you have competition from not just one but TWO glorious franchises desiring my clients services!  Pay me us my guy more and he'll surely sign with you!

Yeah, interesting. It could be Team Four, who the player used to play for, but has already dropped out of the bidding. Team Four would theoretically have a vested interest in making sure Team One or Team Two spends as much money as possible on the player because Team Four wants to make sure they can't outbid them on another client the agent has.

Can we really call it a discount if the highest bid wins?

I'll feel bad for the Twins if/when they come with receipts and show they submitted the best offer and were told "no thanks."

If he picks the Yankees despite a higher offer from the Twins or Cardinals, the highest bid wouldn't win. Just as the Yankees got Judge despite reportedly not having the highest bid.

The Marlins have 2 pitchers Lopez & Cabrera are young and good stats and but may be cheaper than Roden but in a different type of currency $$$ and or player assets. Which currency is most easily refurbished? If the transaction is a failure. If the transaction is a successful when will the Twins start seeing result? Witch trade will bring back fans

Money is way easier to recover than good prospects.

I'll be VERY surprised if Rodon signs here, slightly less so if Correa does.

Was it complete crap when Mauer, or more recently Buxton, eschewed FA and left money on the table to stay in MN?

If Rodon signs with NY for less, and the Twins are one of the teams that bested their offer, then sure, throw a pity party and run with the "NY discount," theory, but until that happens there isn't anything unusual with how FA has played out for them.

We will know soon enough.  Hopefully C-4 will be a player for the Twins for a long time. By the way, I used to cook c-rations with C-4, which we removed from our claymore mines. Just light a teaspoon sized chunk of C-4 on the ground, fold back the metal top to the c-ration can and use the folded top for a handle and hold your can over the small hot flame, constantly stirring the contents so they won't burn and in a short time the food would be hot. Ham and limas, canned ham and eggs, pork and beans, canned mystery meat. Not too tasty, but provided energy.

I heard Kirby and Joe really stayed for the "pike on a stick" cooked over a fire on a frozen lake.

Nah...Carlos Silva!

I'd almost be ok with that.  I attended the following game of his.   https://coffeyvillewhirlwind.wordpress.com/2009/05/19/2005-carlos-silvas-74-pitch-complete-game/

What's so funny about this is that the Twins will sign this guy once the new international signing period starts in January:

https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2023/international/carlos-silva-806991

So they'll definitely get one Carlos, and his last name ist even Silva. ?

That said, I hope they also get C4!

I don't put any stock into anonymous sources. Especially when they're so anonymous as to be potentially no more reputable than a random DM on Twitter, published by a reporter to get clicks.

Sorry but if you can't even cite "someone close to the Twins/Giants/his agent/Rodon", etc. then I just assume you're blowing smoke to get noticed.

Mauer wasn’t a free agent.

No one’s throwing, or asking for a pity party for Minnesota.

After they didn't buy Verlander, I don't really care. This FO likes to wait until the main course has been taken off the table and nibble at the cold sides. My bet is that Rodon has had his light shine as bright as it ever will, and he will tank from here on out. Maybe one good year left. But he has not proven he is a durable starter at all. Verlander would have been better to have than Correa last year (for the $ especially) and the next 2. I bet the contract Rodon signs will be a total albatross for whoever.

That said..... SPEND JOE SPEND!!!!! Get the best pitching you can, and sooner than later.
