$350M too much?

...for Correa? Perhaps. But I read a few posts in here floating the notion that salaries are only heading upwards from here. I agree... and $350M for a superstar might be a bargain as soon as next off season.

I don't see many people talking about this, but think about what Shohei Ohtani could do to the free agent market next season, assuming health. You're getting a superstar hitter and pitcher in one. Could he get $500M? The Dodgers quiet off season could be getting below the luxury tax and clearing room for him.

What does Correa's value look like then, heading into 2024?

Food for thought.

Good point, but  I think it's all about what percentage of the payroll one player gets.  That impacts what is left to build around him.  I say this knowing that the Twins will only spend so much on payroll as related to revenue.

They signed Joe Mauer to a boat load only to not have the funds to build around him with any impacting FA's.  We wasted his time here.

I get that over time, CC's AAV will be a less percentage of the payroll, but I feel that the same thing that happened with Mauer may happen with CC and for that reason, I hope that they go a different direction.

They had money... That front office didn't spend it. Nothing about the Mauer deal hamstrung them.

They had the money, they didn't spend it. That was the issue. His contract hamstrung nothing

And we have money THIS YEAR. Does not mean we will have it in 10+ years when we have had to sign Arreaz, Lewis, Kirilloff, etc.

That's just not a realistic concern. You can't plan that way, unless you are Tampa, who is the only team really capable of competing without real free agents on a constant basis. Your basic argument seems to be, never signs s free agent?

I’m not against signing a FA.  I love the 3 year offer to Vasquez.. I just am not a fan of the 10-13 year mega offers due to the impact to the payroll long-term.  Look at players like Price who essentially is being paid big bucks at the end of his contract for little to nothing.

Price is a pitcher. And, yes, that's part of the deal. They get worse over time, most likely. It costs a lot of money to get great players. Fear that maybe the twins will have too many great players to pay them all seems, like to me, fear that is very unlikely to be real. And if it is, they can deal then for lots of players....
