Senga Signs with Mets; what's left for Twins?

Agreed.  Hope I’m wrong but if Correa signs elsewhere, this off-season looks very bleak. Our FO will likely cap it off by trading Arraez and then when Buxton gets hurt again we can all watch some extremely low octane baseball. We keep our payroll powder dry at well under $100MM and try to put butts in seats selling the youth movement.  But 2023 need not be a complete write-off if: 1) Polanco, Kepler, and probably Mahle, are traded by the deadline and 2) we get to see a lot of Julien, Lewis, Lee, Martin, Wallner, SWR, Varland, Henriquez, and Sands.

A marginally competitive rebuild in 2023 is looking more like a possibility with every passing day…..

Personally, I wasn't as intrigued by Senga as others here and am fine not signing him. And I don't think we should be signing Rodon, either. I think what the market will give Rodon is way riskier than signing Correa to 10-11 yrs. Most pitchers do not outlast position players. The way to better starting pitching has always been and always will be through development and trade. The Twins will never spend on FA starting pitching, mostly because of the years involved. And I'm okay with that philosophy. However, I do think they need to be better at identifying trade candidates. Seems that they are really counting on Mahle to have a better, healthier year and Paddock, too, when he returns. Hoping Joe can take a step further forward. But we do need another starter as good or better than Mahle, who I think is probably our best starter barring injury and someone else just having an insane career year. A trade is where it's at, not a signing. And if it takes Arraez to get a good pitcher, it takes Arraez. The other thing I'm concerned with is the BP. That is where I want to see some activity. We likely won't until we sign Correa; or don't.

Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson, Carlos Rodon, J.D. Martinez, Chris Bassitt, Nathan Eovaldi are still out there and among the names I would love to see them pursue.  After that, there are definitely some guys that you could take a reasonable flyer on:  Mike Zunino, Omar Narvaez, Brandon Belt, Yuli Girriel, Joey Gallo, Tommy Pham, Andrew Benintendi, Michael Brantley, Tyler Naquin, Corey Kluber, Craig Kimbrel, Taylor Rogers, Sean Manaea, Adam Ottivino.

From what I've read Senga has a lot of reliever risk. So I'm fine with some other team taking on that risk.

If there something that is bothering me it's the Mets payroll. 343 mil???...and not done yet...maybe they'll pay Correa 40 mil for 12 years as well...and Ohtani next year for 50 x 12...
