James Rowson as DET assistant batting coach

Just heard that James Rowson was fired from MIA & joined DET as an assistant batting coach on Gleeman & the Geek. I was shocked, why didn't Twins sweep this guy up? Yes, he didn't do very well at MIA buts thats MIA.  He was great at MN, It seems like DET caught MN sleeping again. What do you think?

In my opinion, he did a great job while he was here. I believe he was very well liked by the players too. I was disappointed when he left, but he went to Mia to be Mattingly's bench coach. I figured he get some looks at being a manager at some point.

I would have liked him back. He didn’t have as much success in Miami as he did with the Twins but that like you said was Miami and he was also the bench coach there instead of being the hitting coach. He signed as the assistant hitting coach with the Tigers so it wouldn’t have even been that much of a hassle to sign him. He also seemed to have a good impact on the vibe of the team.

He had success here, would have welcome him back. He deserves a chance to be a manager.

Chemistry has something to do with it. Doesn't always gets tranfer from one team to another.

I really liked James' work as a hitting coach in Minnesota and would have no objection to his return (except that he did chose to leave).  I spent many hours within a few feet of him in the batting cages at ST.  He was a diligent worker and seemingly related well to the players. The results were positive.

Your remark that "He deserves a chance to be a manager" is odd to me.  Little about his work at the MLB level would lead one to believe that he should be a top candidate to manage there.  3 1/2 yrs as a MLB hitting coach and 3 years as bench coach where he apparently failed to meet Miami's expectations dont shout MLB manager to me.  I trust you mean manage at the MiLB level.  What leads you to believe he wouldnt be offered "the chance" to do so in MiLB throughout this off-season? He chose to take an assistant hitting job with Detroit (which is fine).  But, if he aspires to manage in MLB, he needs to demonstrate his managing abilities in MiLB (just like he did with hitting). There are a slew of "deserving" MLB manager candidates with various levels of managerial experience and success out there......Mr. Rowson is not among them.

Detroit's offense is due to rebound in 2023 as a big part of their lineup severely underperformed this year so I think it's a good place to be for a hitting instructor. I hope Mr. Rowson finds success, just not against the Twins. ?
