Twins Batting Champs

Recommended Posts

Our social team just posted this and I just realized something about Twins batting champs.

Tony Oliva - Hall of Fame
Rod Carew - Hall of Fame
Kirby Puckett - Hall of Fame
Joe Mauer - Should be voted into the Hall of Fame when eligible
Luis Arraez - Not in Hall of Fame because he's, you know, 25 years old

Just an interesting observation. When the Twins field a batting champ, that player has a really good career.

I made an 11 x 14 print of this to use as a poster.

Another thing to note is that Kirby is the only retired guy pictured with just one batting title. Oliva and Mauer had three, Carew had about 17. Puckett also played in the heart of the turf era, including his home stadium

(Kirby is pretty overrated by Twins fans)

Something about being the best (clearly the best) player on a team that won TWO worlds championships…something that only Oliva in this group even sniffed. Go figure.

I wonder how many "former Twins" won a title after they were abandoned by the Twins? I know of 2 just off the top of my head, but are there others? I couldn't find any upon looking.

Michael Cuddyer, Colorado Rockies, 2013, .331 National League Batting Title

Justin Morneau, Colorado Rockies, 2014, .319 National League Batting Title (sat out the last two days of season to maximize chances. Walt Weiss made the decision.)
