Article: The Future of Ron Gardenhire

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'll stop lurking (from Day 1. Nice site ya'll) to bite on this one.

What part of the Twins 2006 playoff performance would you lay on Gardy?

If it was only that year the Twins looked over-matched and under-prepared... Unfortunately, you can keep making excuses for every playoff appearance. This was the 4th playoff series in row he lost, on his way to 6 in a row while getting swept and looking completely helpless in the last 3.

Yes, the players need to come through to win. The biggest part of a coach or manager is to have your team prepared. This is where he fails, and the players performance shows it. When this happens over a significant sample, with different players, at some point you have to make a change at the top. I think the time was after the embarrassment of 2010.

Yes, we did not have had the best record in 2006... Yankees won a whopping one more game than we did. Thing is, we played in a division that had three teams win 90 or more games, while the AL East's 2nd place team only won 87. It was a rare year that the AL Central was the toughest division in baseball. Some might look at the whole picture and say that even though we didn't have the best record, we likely had the best team....especially considering the talent. MVP, batting champ, CY Young winner, top 3 closer, power hitting gold glove CF, 100+RBI RF...

Not unreasonable to think we shouldn't have gotten swept in the first round...

Garddy is one of the best managers in the game. He has been so successful for so many years. Its not his fault that the last couple seasons the owners have dumped a bunch of salaries and our best players. I mean we have gotten rid of Cuddyer, Kuble, Revere, Span, Nathan..... And who have they replaced them with? Noone, they have done nothing to help him succeed.

Who have the Twins been matched up with in almost every playoff series while gardy has been the manager? Yankees, the team that has a payroll of over 200mil every year. We have gotten bad luck matching up with them. They spend so much money on so many good players, the Twins just cant do that. Its not just the twins they beat, they go far in the playoffs every year.

I do not, ever, use ESPN opinions to judge anything.

Also, hopefully Gardy has had enough of the losing himself to step aside and let someone else take over. This way the Twins wouldn't have to deal with firing him and they keep the whole "loyalty" schtick while hopefully getting a new voice in the mix.
