A good read about our team

Happened to see this article. It must have originally been in USA Today. In my opinion, it's pretty spot on. It hits all the low points:

https://www.si.com/fannation/bringmethesports/twins/after-disappointing-season-twins-president-disappointed-fans-are-disappointed?src=rss

That is one heck of an indictment of the Twins FO and management and fans. Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth here, including calling the hapless Twins "the Yankees chew toy". I propose that the Twins be sold to a Charlotte or Raleigh investor, and move their entire franchise, kit and caboodle to North Carolina.

Ownership and the FO are completely lost. Blaming low attendance on the fans rather than the product is a real dick move by St. Peter, who should just go away at this point. We have a bad team and a boring team. But let's blame the fans. Sure makes me want to support this team more.

And the FO is a waste. Falvey has utterly failed and a good team would have moved on from him already but we're going to stick it out for a few more years. Gads.

Yeah, fan blaming/shaming is not a good look.

The Pohlads and crew are here to stay apparently and we can only hope they are capable of learning.  I'm not interested in blaming them or reading any futile comparisons to past front offices because I just want the Twins to have a fun competitive team that is able to play good baseball.

The 2022 Twins were competitive enough in a weak AL Central but the fans voted with their feet. I follow the Twins religiously (I'm watching the game right now) and it has been a poor product on the field all year for baseball fans. Fundamentals, or little things are frequently not part of their game for whatever reason. The Plan is not a worthy watch as well. It really doesn't matter what the reason is though because the casual fan will never keep up with those of us who listen or watch 150+ Twins games and the attendance directly speaks to the quality of the common person's viewing experience. It is ridiculous to discuss Minneapolis as an issue too. Jeez, public relations? I say this as someone who is not from Minneapolis Put a product on the field that garners interest from the nominal fan and attendance will go up. Hopefully, Jim Pohlad and the front office go on a little retreat in early November and decide to have some honest internal discussions that result in a better experience and product for everyone.

As I get ready to to submit this Urshela is picked off second base, the third running miscue of the game.

Coming off of a non-season because of COVID, a partial season in which TV suddenly became unavailable on some straming services, and a lockout...whatever the Twins did for advertising the team fell on deaf ears in 2022. Did they advertise outside of their own broadcasts?

I felt there was little team outreach, little in the way of social media reaches. No amrketing whatsoever.

Averaged 22,000 a game. Has to be disappointing when you were in first place for up to four months, during prime summer months.

Gotta rethink the realtionship with WCCO radio and sister stations. WCCO was always a great booster in the past. Bally is not the outlet for your broadcast games, sorry.

Seems like Mr. St Peter is out of touch with reality. I wonder how many games he watches during the season. Evidently it isn't enough because if he saw the same game that the fans saw he would know why attendance was terrible. Anyone with any common sense would know that if attendance is bad the product you are presenting is bad. Oh, how many fans did the Twins draw when Kirby Puckett and Company took the Twins to the World Series? I think it was north of 3 million. Good Team = Good Attendance, Bad Team = Bad Attendance. It's not rocket science or brain surgery but maybe the latter would help those in charge.

Agreed, Bally has been a disaster and I gotta think “out of sight, out of mind” in terms of TV broadcast added to, 2021 being a terrible team, put the ticket sales in a significant deficit before the season started.

WCCO has streamed the radio broadcast free this season (in radio area only) which helped my enjoyment a lot.

Ultimately, ending this season at or below .500 after being 10 games above .500, wasting a strong division lead and signing Correa cements the narrative that was started in ‘21….. this is a bad team.

season ticket sales are going to tank harder yet this offseason.

We’ve seen DSP put his foot in his mouth like this before, looking forward to a repeat of this article next year.

Great article. St. Peter is clearly not watching the games. I am more than a casual fan and could barley watch this team after the All-Star break. The best term I can come up to describe this team is bland. No spark, no fire, no leadership, no coaching and very poor management.

I'll lay it out for him. It stems honestly from one thing and one thing alone. Our manager and/or front office pulling pitchers too early and losing games with a bad bullpen. They did this over, and over and over and over and over. EVERYONE could see it wasn't working, yet the arrogance displayed while continuing down that path angered fans.

Couple that with a team that makes stupid outs and decisions on the bases and seems to not know much about fundamental baseball, moving runners, getting runners in from third with less than 2 outs, etc and there you have it.

Basically, they found ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory quite a bit and that just isn't fun to watch and it's also predictable as a L more times than not.

One of the reasons the Guardians won this division is due a lot to the fact that hitters were willing to give themselves up to advance runners. Even Ramirez was willing to lay down a bunt to try and help his team win. Not 90% of this team - it's swing for the fences or nothing. Then they wonder why they lose so many close games and especially why they chronically lose in extra innings.

I can't believe more people didn't want to spend their time and money watching the Twins play worse baseball than the Royals either Dave.

At least local media is holding this stooge accountable for being painfully out of touch, and they're not actively taking to their own social media to bitch about low attendance and criticize fans as well. Oh wait.....

Hate to break it to you DSP, but the apathy towards the Twins is going to get worse before it improves. A new scoreboard and more bar options isn’t going to entice people to buy tickets. This brand of Twins baseball is driving away diehard fans and casual fans in droves.

The narrative about people being scared to go downtown is so overblown and false. It’s debunked every single week in the fall when the Vikings sell out a 70,000 person stadium, the Gophers attract 40,000+ fans, and the T Wolves will have sell outs for most of this coming season.

Can confirm, there were a lot more people out and about, particularly in the North Loop/TF area, this summer than last year. The brand comment is spot on. There were a number of games, or even entire series I would check out of because they were just so damn boring. Even when this club was perennially losing 90+ games I wasn't that detached.
