Game thread: Angels @ Twins, 1:10 pm, 9/25/2022

Hi!

Today for the game thread introduction, I will be posting a list of things to do besides complain about Rocco or the front office.

 

Pitching matchup: LHP Jose Suarez (6-8, 4.11) vs. RHP Dylan Bundy (8-7, 4.78)

Time: 1:10 p.m. 

Location: Target Field, Minneapolis. 

Weather: Mid 60s, mostly sunny and breezy. 

Lineups to follow 

 

But since this is Twins Territory, and since the Twins like to cut corners, there will not be 10 things on the Top Ten list, but more like 8 or 9 things. 

So, with no ado, here are the Top 6 or 7 things you can do today besides complain about Rocco or the front office (drum roll gif): 

1. Complain about Emilio Pagan not making the All Star game this year— I mean, if it weren’t for all those bad outings, he would have been there, just ask him;
2. Imagine being an Angels fan, with two of the best players in baseball in Trout and Ohtani and not a whole lot of pitching year after year to get them through the regular season (oh wait, that kind of sounds like the Twins too); 
3. Fantasize about the prospect haul that Sonny Gray and Tyler Mahle will bring back at the trade deadline next season;
4. Try going into a busy bustling sports bar at about 1:10 p.m. this afternoon and ask them to put the Twins game on the big screen;
5. Ok, complain anyway, but be decent about it, try to be constructive, say the same old thing in a new way if possible, no name calling, and don’t make it personal. 

 

Here is a list of things that did not make the cut: 

Plan something with your family, or join up with a loved one, instead of figuring out how to get away and watch the sports games … go out and enjoy a beautiful early autumn afternoon if you are in Minnesota … start getting ready for winter in some way (a frost might be coming to Minnesota this week) … pick up a book anywhere in the middle and read for a bit … walk your dog somewhere new … decide to cook, bake, or prepare a dish from your childhood … acknowledge that bad habit you have, and visualize and plan your next attempt to break it … surprise someone in your home or building or a neighbor by smiling or waving to them … clean up or organize a certain corner of your apartment, basement, house, yard or garage you have been thinking about … pause and appreciate something ordinary or something you usually take for granted … write a letter or send a text to catch up with someone you haven’t reached out to for a while. 

Mixing and matching from both lists is allowed.

Balelli is starting C Hamilton, he should give B. Hamilton a start or two, just to see if he can hit better than Palacios.

First blunder of the game is twofold, Celestino throwing to home when he needs to hit the cutoff man and Bundy not backing up the play. Little league level mistakes.

Is it safe to say that the Celestino experiment in center field did not work?   Between his inability to make the simplest throws in the outfield, to his constant baserunning mistakes, I think it is safe to say it did not work out and would probably be best if he was in another uniform next season.

Just watched the replay on GameDay, very, very bad play by Celestino. Yes, he's young, but he's pretty much played everyday this year. He doesn't seem to get it.

A similar situation happened about a month ago.

I would prefer Cave in center personally, he has more experience there.

Isn't someone in the infield supposed to be telling him where to throw? Maybe that person needs a louder voice?

Some fielders have strong accurate arms, sadly some who do not think they do.

My impression is experiments work if you collect useful information...

So If this didn't work, then i guess we don't know if it is safe to say anything?

 

My personal experience, it is safe to say things, though it probably depends what one says... as well as how, i suppose.

 

Celestino stranded at second. This makes me sad.

The Twins are making Trout look like the Trout of old.

Given the track record between the two, why wouldn't Bundy just walk Trout every time up?

Considering his slash line before the game was .273/.359/.605 = OPS .965 with 36 HRs, I'd say he never really went away...

He's looked pretty good since his month on the IL. I was afraid with his chronic back issues he wouldn't be the same player.

The Twins were always Trout’s achilles  heel. Just not recently,

Gordon hits a two out soft double down the left field line and is barely safe scrambling back to first base because Sanchez stops at second base even though there were two outs. I'm nearly 70 and I could have made it to third. Not a big deal on September 25 with the season basically over but just another example in a constant display of poor simple fundamental baseball. If Jim Pohlad was interested in baseball he would have questions.

Can we please send Polacios back to St. Paul??? He is horrible at 2nd base.
