4 Reasons the 2022 Season is More Frustrating Than 2021

Recommended Posts

Wow. Couldn't disagree more. Frustrating? Only in that most of us cared about the team deep into the season (and it is exceedingly clear now that a title is unlikely). That is what being a fan is about; following your team through the highs and lows, and living the pain and glory along with that team.

Want to save on frustration? Never listen/watch a game live again; just stream complete Wins out of the MLB.tv archive, and you'll never need to be frustrated or surprised again. Also, stop following a team, and just hop from bandwagon to bandwagon watching only winners. Do that, and I guarantee you'll be frustration free, right next to this year's eventual champions, and hanging with the champions for the rest of your life. And pretty freaking bored.

This team did NOT come into the season with great expectations; yep, picked for second in the division, but a distant second. They played in the division lead most of the season. They had things work (Miranda, Gordon, Larnach for a while), got some solid play from expected players, had lots of adversity, some serious peaks and valleys in management (seriously, how many roster-days have we played short, because the Twins carried hurt players who should have been on the IL, and I've seen Little League teams run the bases better). But the result isn't frustration, it is joy, pain, regret, glory, humility. The reason you follow a team.

14-7 (3 of 5 in Cleveland) rest of the year gets us into a possible Tie (85 wins) for the division. We are starting back-ups at 5 positions (whole outfield, 2B, & catcher)…….gonna be tough but have a shot!! Arraez has to play (leg problem) - can’t drop another key guy!

More interesting & fun than 2021!

I just checked Guardian’s schedule and unless there’s a mistake, they finish with 6 straight home games vs. the Royals. Tough to overcome that.

You are correct. For some reason (probably advancing age) I thought it was the Sox who played those 6 but its Cleveland...which makes it worse for us for sure. How many of those games does one think the Royals could win?

This year has been frustrating for me due to the number and length of the injuries to key players. Sano was probably no loss. Jeffers was so-so. Kirilloff was a crap shoot. He started the season injured and his wrist may never heal. the large number of pitchers who haven't been able to play has been astounding....right from the beginning. Buxton, I believe, was hurt from opening day, but he is such a gamer, he tried to give it a go. His body just won't let him. He hasn't been much help this year. Polanco is having a terrible season, but we need him. Kepler is having a terrible season, but we need him too.

I don't think Lewis was penciled in to be with the Twins all season. We'll never know. having a catcher who can hit is always a bonus. Mauer spoiled us. Didn't expect much from Sanchez, frankly. He hasn't been terrible defensively, like many thought. Celestino is way over his head. In a normal year he would have been at St Paul for further grooming. Urshela...not much to say about him. Gordon and Miranda have been studs.

This is probably a .500 team. If healthy, much better. Certainly more entertaining than last year. As for our manager, I'll leave that one alone.

The 2021 season was horrible, but there was some consolation to be had from getting relatively high draft picks this year.

This year there was genuine reason the feel that the Twins could win the division, but next year's draft picks will be middle of the pack.

The team never had a run-scoring streak commensurate with the offensive talent they have/had. They have been among the least efficient teams producing runs all year. Top that off with terrible base running and you have an underachieving offense and that was supposed to be the strength of the team.

I like this year way better than last year.  The offseason was fun.  The deadline deals were fun.   I mean there is not much more the front office could have done then maybe sign a better starting pitcher as one of their transactions.  I was surprised how many games had we blew as our bullpen is at least average.  I don't think we have a horrible pen.  Yet we blew so many games.

Injuries are really frustrating.  We lost Buxton, for a little too much of the season.  Lewis, Larnarch, Killeroff, Jeffries and Sano put a damper on the offense.

I was happy with how well the rotation did overall.  Bundy was better than expected.  Gray and Ryan are good.  Smeltzer, Ober, Paddack, and Winder have held their own overall while healthy.  Archer was ok for a while.

I feel like we were so close and that there are about 10 games we should have won but didn't.  That is all that is frustrating about this year.

Overall the season was mostly fun.  so  I am disappointed with the loses.  but not with the moves made to get here.

My frustration for this year is two fold: our FO sat out a robust free agent pitching market and put all their chips on the vaunted pitching pipeline. Of course it was a disaster and torpedoed what could have been a good season.
Second is the complete lack of fundamentals this team displays. Sloppy play almost every game and in all facets. This has to be addressed before next year.
