I think Rocco taking him out after 7 innings was cruel.  He should at least let him pitch in 8th inning.   Every pitcher would love to have no-hitter in their lifetime.  It is very rarity.   He may not have another chance for no-hit.  Who knows!

I already said I that Rocco's decision was wrong, but just to play devil's advocate ... he was at 106 pitches with 2 innings to go. Say you let him go out for the 8th and he finishes it, still a no hitter and he now sits at 120-125 ... does anyone think about Santana and the Mets?

Either someone sat Ryan down and told him to be a professional or he calmed down a bit and did it on his own because the second interview was much more by the books.

Although I  do like when pitchers get mad at being taken out.

Where do you find this second interview?

Is that how to be bitter?

A bitter is just someone doing a bit?

Bitters are small bottles of spirits infused with botanicals (herbs and spices) that are used to flavor cocktails.

He should be mad. But he should also conduct himself professionally. I think he can be both. I give him a lot more props for being both rather than throwing a tantrum

I don't. Injuries are going to happen whether you throw ten pitches or 200.

That's a good point. I would be cringing.

The chances do increase, though ... that no hitter where Santana threw how many pitches? It ruined him.

Keep in mind, I think Ryan should have been sent out for the 8th, but just throwing this out there. Food for thought.

Rocco looking out for Rocco there. Nothing in it for him if Ryan throws a no-hitter. Meanwhile, if Ryan comes up with a bad arm a couple weeks after throwing 136 pitches (that was his pace)…Rocco looks like an idiot.

Also…Joe. You can not like it (I certainly wouldn’t), But gotta grow up a bit. This is professional baseball in 2022.

He was fine, he’ll be fine, nothing wrong with being upset about it, it would be weird if he was happy

Of course ... I'm not saying differently. I'm just saying I give him a lot of props for still conducting himself professionally despite being mad instead of throwing a tantrum.

He’ll do that in private, or maybe in Rocco’s office

So weird that we’re at a place where a guy can’t be mad about being denied a chance to make history. I pitched through lowly division 3 college ball. I can’t IMAGINE the euphoria of throwing a no hitter at the major league level. There have been roughly 320 recognized no hitters since 1876. 1876!!!! 146 years! Grow up? Are you kidding me man? Lol

Analytics haven't quite figured out injuries yet. If low pitch counts prevented injuries the twins would have twelve healthy starters . I mean Santana only threw 134 pitches. Thousands of people did it before him. But we'll never really know either.

Every pitcher is different though, the way Ryan pitches, he looks like he could throw all day… I don’t know

Did I say he can’t be mad? I edited my post to make clear(er) that I didn’t say that. There’s a difference between being upset with a decision in a professional setting and sulking like a child. He took a few steps on the wrong side of that. He’s young. It’s ok. He’ll be fine.

Joe grow up? Thats where analytics have taken us in 2022. Prior to 2022, how many guys have been taken out in the 7th inning of a no hitter? Go ahead, count on one hand, maybe. But probably not. He was mad. He had a right to be. It was a dumb move. Of course the manager will be saying all the 'right' things to justify..and many will simply nod up and down and parrot out the same stuff. That was not the grand old game of baseball. that was nonsense.  Give Ryan a mulligan on his 'behavior'. It was a tough pill.

Twins have very little going for them right now. This would have at least kept the fans happy. And they sorta do pay for the tickets. I doubt there was one single teammate who privately agreed with the manager. Yes, its a team game...and this time the team was pulling for their teammate to do something special.

Gotta keep Joe fresh for October. Maybe he plays disc golf and rocco is concerned about his distance off the tee
