It hit me today that pitchers develop at many different times. Cody Lawyerson per example was drafted in the 14th round. Now however He's putting up a 0.82 E.R.A at Double A. My other example is Tyler Jay, If you have been a Twins fan for a while you will know you this is. For those of you who don't He was the 6th overall pick in the 2015 draft. He continued to throw up mediocre to bad stats in the minors before he left the league in 2019. This is no hate to Jay at all. He was and is a phenominal pitcher and he is one of many. So my point is that It's hard to figure out who will be an effective MLB pitcher and who will not. I thought it would be interesting to see who people think show more potential then others.

40-man will contain the following rotation arms: Madea, Ryan, Gray, Ober, Winder, Varland, Balazovic, Mahle, Paddack, Woods-Richardson, Canterino.

Smeltzer and Dobnak may still be with us on minor league contracts.

Bullpen will retain: Duran, Jax, Lopez, Moran, Alcala, Enlow, Henriquez, Sands, Thielbar

Fulmer is a free agent. Pagan will be given consideration. Stashak and Coulombe and Romero are still possibilities, but most likely get released and resigned if they look like they are coming back into form.

There seems to be a love affair with Cotton and Megill. Jewell could stay on a minor contract, as well Gossett. Not sure what Peacock will do. Will the Twins retain Minaya...again?

The most promising relief pitchers will all just try to get to the majors (who remembers Jordan Gore, Yennier Cano, Ian Hamilton, Ryan Mason). Lawyerson is a stud in low minors. Sisk has been a gem of a find. Schulfer is a possible keeper. Fundeburk is on the cusp of consideration.

Left oevr from the above being on the Twins radar in 2023...2025 will see Ryan, Eander, Woods-Richardson, Varland in the rotation. Duran, Moran, Alcala and maybe Jax still in the pen. Slim chance that Balazovic, Canterino, Enlow will make it. If Mahle or Gray are considered worthy of a 3-4 year extension, we will see them in 2025.

Well if you look back 3 years you have your answer, which is likely to be nobody currently on the team or in the high minors. Time will tell, so no worries.

Very telling look back.

As I look at today's roster, I'll say Jax, Duran and Ryan remain 3 more years.  Otherwise, it's whoever in the minors develops fast enough, acquisitions along the lines of other recent trades, free agents along the lines of recent signings.

Development is the only area where pleasant surprises seem possible.  We have a few key prospects who wouldn't be surprises, but more is needed.

Steep path to climb IMO.
