2022 Vikings Regular Season Thread

It doesn't seem possible, but they need to make this year memorable because next year is looking like a huge course correction. Thielen, Smith, Cook and Cousins have gigantic dead cap money, yet keeping more than one of the first three seems next to impossible with the salaries they'll command. Next year has to be Cousins final year with the team but there's no heir apparent. And they can't really trust a youth movement because they just had their worst draft since Fran Foley ran things. Maybe even worse than Fran Foley.

I highly, highly doubt it. Jimmy G is out for the rest of the season.

Yeah they’ve definitely taken a hit now that they have the literal “mr irrelevant” at QB. But the top defense in football will always give them a chance.

We just played the top 4 ranked defenses in football the last 4 weeks. How did that turn out?

Mike Zimmer, is that you?

They all had chances to tie or win at the end, even with mac jones and mike white at QB…

So what? You keep saying it will catch up to them but it really hasn’t. So far you’ve been wrong 10 out of 12 games.

All I said was that SF will still have a chance even with their 3rd string QB because their defense is #1 in the league. NE and the jets started below average QBs and took us to the wire. Our offense is wonderful but I would take the SF defense in one second. And you would too. Kirk didn’t have his best game today, but we’re toast if he goes down. Good defenses almost always top good offenses. I’ve watched too much football to get super excited about going 3-1 while allowing 460 average yards a game and a -22 point differential. Take out the cowboys blowout and our 3 wins were by a total of 15 points.

The Jets are a good team, and supposedly the Bills are better. You’re too hung up  on the yardage. If a team drives 80 yards and only gets a field goal that’s a win for the defense.I say they played good.

It has so far. It caught up to them against Philly and Dallas, and they’d have to get through one, if not both in the playoffs.

Fun season for sure, but this team is going to need multiple better teams to play terribly to win it all.

The lowest ranked defense to ever win a Super Bowl was the 2011 giants and they were 25th on Y/G and points allowed/game. Right now the Vikings are 31 in Y/G and 20th in scoring.

And both those games the Vikings were beaten by the better defense as their offense sputtered. And SF has a better defense than those two teams. Heck, Washington is 7th in yards allowed per game and top 15 in scoring. That could be a first round matchup right there. They had us dead to rights until ol’ Taylor heinecke overthrew his receiver by 15 yards

And next year they have four picks .... But, the cap will go up. I think they need thielen to somehow reduce his hit. And signing Cook was likely a mistake, but not on this FO.

Hopefully they have learned that RBs are always there in the 3rd round of the draft.  Do not pay them.

Trying to decide if I want the 49ers to sign Baker Mayfield. He **MIGHT** be better than Purdy, but there's also a decent possibility that his self-promoting and distracting personality and antics could make things worse in SF.

I think they have to sign him. If Purdy goes down, they are starting a random guy off the street (instead of, you know, a random QB taken in the draft)

Sounds like they signed 36 year old QB Josh Johnson off of Denver's practice squad last night. Johnson has been on a record 14 different NFL teams and this is his 4th stint with the 49ers! Of course, this signing was before Mayfield was released, so who knows?

Good luck to their offense if Josh has to play. I'd rather resurrect Rivers if he'd come back.

I think Rivers is done.  Hasn't played since 2020, is a HS head coach now, and also has 9 kids.

I seriously don't know that Mayfield is any better. He's been terrible for awhile now. Someone who knows the system and can hand the ball off to McCaffrey, the rookie RBs and Deebo Samuel might be that team's best option right now.

Not that I want to encourage the 49ers to make the right decisions at the moment.....

Baker might be done taking any meaningful snaps in the league. A slightly better Johnny Manziel is how he’ll be remembered

He'll be remembered a lot better than that. Manziel was a complete bust. Mayfield won a playoff game for - arguably - the worst franchise of the last 20 years. I'm not sure what is wrong with Mayfield now but a good QB coach might be able to something for him.

Meh. #1 overall pick, career losing record, passer rating mid 80s, average completion percentage. Drafted #1 overall in ‘18 and couldn’t even keep a place on the terrible panthers. Manziel was a late first round pick
