2022 Vikings Regular Season Thread

Back on the Kirk train. Best half of football I’ve seen him play.

I am wrestling with this, because I never drank the kool aid, and I know bad Kirk is still going to surface again, QBs make mistakes. Favre and Keenum made dumb mistakes as well. Despite his contract, nobody is pretending Cousins is an all time great like Brady or Manning in their primes. Cousins will miss throws. The line was not great today. But Cousins was really good. He also runs when he needs to, which is not something he did when he came over. And pretty much every play on that last drive today, he looked to Jefferson like we ask him to  — and how did that turn out ?

Yep. Pretty sketchy that the league didn’t step in for a booth review.

I get that the review team wants to be impartial, but when the whole Vikings sideline erupts simultaneously doing the incomplete pass signal, then yeah, they need to swallow their pride and stop the game and look.

It was inexplicable how they don’t just blow the whistle and stop play until the replay assistant got a quick look. The ball was out of bounds so it’s not like they had to worry about a running clock. Who knows if it would have mattered but it was clear it should have been looked at. Officials overall had a horrible day on calls/no calls. Our receivers were being interfered with a lot

Another quick random thought: as long as the NFL is going to allow field goals in overtime, move the overtime quarter back to 15 minutes.

8-1. Feels good.

I’ve always thought it should be at least a 10/15 minute full quarter or a 15 minute quarter and each team is guaranteed one possession. The current system is still dumb but a slight improvement over what it was.

Kirk is maddening because he gets so much hate and he’s honestly a really good qb. But at the same time it’s always in the back of your mind that he’s going to inexplicably have a dud of a game at the worst time (National tv, night game etc). And no one knows why that is. Time difference? Routine out of whack? Nerves? Because he’s easily a top 10 quarterback most games but he’ll just implode when everyone is watching. But I guess today, a win on the road against a top 5 team with essentially a national audience, he kind of quieted that narrative for a bit, but it sure looked like it was going to be a classic kirk dud.

I will say, he’s been doing what he did the last few games under heavy pressure which makes it more impressive. He’s been taking more and more hits. The offensive line will have to sew things up. Kirk must stay upright.

Kirk is having his worst season statistically since his first full year starting in 2014. And none of it matters. Because he’s played well this year when it matters most. Which is the most important attribute for a QB.

I'm not sure this will be a complement but it's meant to be - a few times these past few games, watching Cousins heave it downfield while being tackled has reminded me of Jeff George in 99. He started the last 10 games and rescued the Vikings season (we started 2-4 and went 8-2 and won a playoff game) but was always getting sacked b/c our line was bad. But he just chucked the ball deep to Moss.

KOC's play calling at the 2 minute warning could have broken the team and been the story, he's got to make improvements. As great as Jefferson is, sometimes it seems KOC forgets we have Cook.

I think the Eagles and KC are definitely better than us. And I don't want to play SF in the playoffs. But this team seems to be better than they should be and they don't give up. It's a fun team to watch. I like that.

This is not the same team that got beat by the Eagles. Vikings defense is much better now and making game changing plays in every game. What’s really impressive in my mind is that they are getting noticeably better every week. This combination of offense and defense could possibly be unbeatable.

Kirk was a guest on Peyton and Eli last Monday night. He needed that I think, good confidence booster.

SF is very physical. Eagles trailing at half for the first time all year. Man it’s an uphill climb considering the eagles schedule, but getting that top seed would be amazing

Eagles lose. Washington would be dynamite with a better QB. Eagles now 8-1 but still have that tiebreaker over us. But they came into this game with only 3 turnovers. Some of that is skill some is luck and they turned it over a bunch tonight. Maybe, just maybe, they can drop a couple down the stretch and we drop one less. A bye would be incredible

Philly has a few tough games - 3 against Giants and Cowboys, plus the Titans. Conference games are always tougher. They won't finish 16-1.

Our schedule is still harder but at least we have a bunch of home games left - Jets, Giants, Cowboys, Patriots and Colts are all home games. I thought we'd be favored in all of those but, apparently, the Cowboys are favorites this week. And we have three road games - Det, Chi, and GB.

Gads, I'd love to get the bye.

I was at the game, and just catching up on the thread, that was a fun read!

If that had been Philly, I doubt we fans get out of the stadium alive. The Bills fans were great though.

I feel pretty good about a playoff run, despite the weekly theatrics, but still would feel sick about a #2 Vikings vs #7 Packers matchup.

Pretty crazy that the line vs the Cowboys is DAL -1.5 despite us being at home. I guess the bettors are expecting the Vikings to be fatigued after the Bills game… but Dallas just lost to GB. If Christian Watson was able to score 3 TDS on them, what is JJ going to do?

After last week, I honestly can't think of a better scenario for the Vikings. They ARE due to have their egos burst, but then here comes Vegas to instead put another chip on their shoulders with the underdog label?!?! This is fantastic!

OK, so just detangling last year's draft. The Vikings traded Jamison Williams for Lewis Cine and Christian Watson. Then traded Christian Watson for Alec Pierce and Ed Ingram, then traded Alec Pierce for Andrew Booth.

I'm going to have no sympathy for them when they're forced to break the bank for Jefferson because they have no other options at WR.

It certainly isn't looking great, yet. Hopefully Ingram gets better, and Booth is good

It's just crazy that this team has had such a turnaround with almost NO contributions from the draft class. Getting rid of Zimmer and Spielman looks like a no-brainer call now.

Well, I mean except for the poor looking draft strategy.

Any update on Darrisaw? I haven't heard anything on him.

Limited practice participant yesterday. Not much we can do about it. He’s gotta go through the new protocol and can’t rush him through. Hopefully he’s cleared to play on Sunday.

However, the Eagles signed Joseph and Suh for the DL? Ugh, those two are long in the tooth, but to have them available in a rotation to keep everyone fresh, that would have been nice.

Way nicer than OBJ in my opinion.

OBJ is a cancer.  You do not want cancer.

Cancer or not, he's not nearly as good as the hype. He's a 30-year-old receiver who's had one season better than Adam Thielan since 2016. He's all name, no production. He had one 100 yard receiving game in the NFC Championship last year and somehow the pundits got hypnotized.

And that was in no way an Adam Thielan endorsement.

To be fair to him, when he was finally put in a situation to thrive with a functioning QB, he was great with the Rams. I'd be more wary about how much burst he has left after a second tear in the same ACL.

I don't know that he was great last year. In the regular season he topped 40 yards twice with the Rams. He basically made his dinner getting open in the end zone while Kupp was getting triple teamed.  Basically just like Adam Thielan.
