Contemplating Rocco Baldelli’s Future with the Twins

IMO, Rocco's future hinges on the last month of the season. If they can win the division they will probably keep him. If they lose it, he should be gone. It's been a terrible few months that aren't really all his fault, but the way he has handled the pitching staff has been hard to watch. He continued to march out Pagan no matter how bad things went. He gets his mind bent on all the stats, and doesn't seem to have a feel for the game. A lot of the problem has to be laid at the feet of the FO also. I'm not going to blame much onj injuries, because truth be told, all teams are dealing with them. The fact that the Twins had some bats in the minors that were able to step up and help is huge. Unfortunately, the arms weren't as ready to do the same.

An excellent summary of how I view Rocco. The injuries aren’t his fault and neither is the acquisition of Pagan. But I agree that he doesn’t seem to have a feel for using his pitching staff. Analytics can take you only so far.

Whether you like his style or not, I do not think he is going anywhere, unless the team completely falls off.  We are above .500 and unless we crash the last month of the season we should finish above .500.  That would be 3 out of 4 above .500, and we have a good chance to still make playoffs depending on how last month goes.  Our star CF has been injured or playing hurt most of this season.  We are on our like 5th LF, and used a like 10 starters, and 20 pen pitchers it seems, not sure exact numbers.

I am not defending his style, but Rocco has been winning overall, we have no clue if anyone else would have done any better, and I would doubt they would.  Also, Rocco is managing how I believe the FO wants, following analytics.

5?  For the season, we have used 8 left fielders in one way or another.

By contrast the Yankees have used only eight all year and the Dodgers a mere nine.

We have it rough.

I bet if the question would have been asked going into the season after spring training 'If the Twins were 2 games or so out of 1st place going into September would you take that'?  I bet the vast majority of us would have said YES I will take that.  If they don't implode in September and given their recent stretch I don't see an implosion occurring I'm not sure how Rocco isn't back in '23 as manager.  Hopefully the entire month of September is full of meaningful games.  WIN TWINS!

I understand why this is a conversation but I really don't understand why this should be a conversation.

As long as the front office and Rocco are on the same page... He isn't going anywhere.

Insubordination is the only thing that would cost him his job.

If you have a complaint about Rocco's managing... Identify the proper target and that would be his immediate supervisors... the front office. They are not keeping a manager who isn't reading and executing from the same playbook. They are not going to hire a rogue manager... I'll bet with anyone that Rocco isn't rogue.

Personally, I have no problems with the front office. This decision belongs to them.

Professor Baldelli is one of the best sunflower seed spitters we have had.

IMO, I would like to see him go. If his computer were to crash I don't think he would be able to create a lineup or make any decisions. A very unimaginative leader.

Go Twins! Twins Geezer - out!

The irony is you typed this drivel on some sort of computer, while I've never even seen Baldelli look at any kind of screen while in the dugout. Even in a possible replay situation he relies on others to consult said screen then uses good old human interaction to implement his decision. Lol.
