Game Thread: Twins @ Astros 7:10pm cdt 8/23/2022 ad

Recommended Posts

Stream* of consiousness game thread introduction... (which despite my occasional attempts to impose order, most all my intros end up being this... believe me, if i figure out how to write them in my sleep, i am sure i will, if only for the novelty of it)

On paper we are looking at a three game losing streak on the line, depending on journeyman injury replacement pitcher on the road facing a future hallof famer and Cy Young candidate at home heading AL West juggernaut. Has there been more lopsided epectations since David met Goliath** in the Bible? Probably... (feel free to name a few) like Karate Kid or just because of the name:

ROCKY!

0. Aaron Sanchez (R) P

1. Luis Arraez (L) 1B

2. Carlos Correa (R) SS

3. Jorge Polanco (S) 2B

4. Jose Miranda (R) DH

5. Nick Gordon (L) CF

6. Max Kepler (L) RF

7. Gio Urshela (R) 3B

8. Jake Cave (L) LF

9. Gary Sanchez (R) C

and... Bullwinkle?

0. Justin Verlander (R) P

1. Jose Altuve (R) 2B

2. Yuli Gurriel (R) 1B

3. Yordan Alvarez (L) LF

4. Alex Bregman (R) 3B

5. Kyle Tucker (L) RF

6. Trey Mancini (R) DH

7. Jeremy Pena (R) SS

8. Mauricio Dubon (R) CF

9. Martin Maldonado (R) C

83F and 25% precipitation (but i think they are in a dome, so that is misleading)

And i am sure Correa will be well received, but no one is pulling any punches.

And as a final note, being the dog days of August, i'll end with a clip of Ralph:

(And with all the clips, maybe no one will notice how short this is... Ah, back in the day intro writers would write the complete game thread...)

* In the draught conditions, more like a trickle so as to conserve thought.

** This is not meant to suggest bean balls, no matter what the unwritten rules are. Though i do wonder what trashcan rhythm denoted that...

The series should put a stamp on the rest of the season. 62-61.  By the end of the Yankee series, this will be over.  Just too many injuries and guys not getting it done.  I could see this team finishing 7-10 games out and we are looking at 75-80 overall wins.  Next year is boom or bust my guess for the manager.  If next year is bad, we can consider this a rebuild.  Frankly, we may have already started the rebuild.  I hope Correa opts out.  $35 million for what we have received is an overpay.  That 35 million can be used better than this.  I'm glad the FO took the chance and signed him, but when the season is complete it will be time to move on.
