Pagan

Since he is our favorite target to hate it is important to recognize the contribution he made in today's win. He covered a couple innings on short notice without giving up a run and bridged the gap to where we'd expect to see a run of bullpen arms. Hopefully this is a turning point for him.

Just something to think about......

I wonder if Rogers has already asked his agent about getting back to Minnesota next year where the grass is green, the bunnies are cute, the popcorn is free and his career is promising.

And now, a few days later…

Rogers 4.56

Pagan 5.24

I’m hoping Pagan has pitched his last pitch for the Twins, personally.

Digging even just a bit deeper:

2022

Rogers: 1.117 WHIP, 0.6 HR/9, 5.27 K/BB

Pagan: 1.398 WHIP, 2.0 HR/9, 3.33 K/BB

Rogers has hit a rough patch for sure. But I'd take him in the Twins pen. Gladly.

You've could've spammed that post for the last 2 months and been right every time...

I get that it's MN but at what point does the FO actually get some heat (outside of fan angst) for continuing to gove him the ball? They could literally call up any AAAA arm or sign a washed waiver claim and get this kind of performance. It's a joke...

Agreed....Pagan needs to go.  But Rogers has hit more than a "rough" patch.....I think he has one save (last night) since joining the Brewers....they are rarely using him in save situations.  His second half struggles have become the norm.  Would I like to have him on this team?  Heck yeah, but pitching is not our problem right now....the lineup is.

I'm really hoping that Pagan is given a DFA in order to bring up Aaron Sanchez to start Tuesday in Houston. Starting Sands in Houston has all the earmarks of a complete blowout, and keeping him and Smeltzer the bullpen for long relief actually makes sense with Bundy and Archer's starts coming up. Sands and Smeltzer need to cover some innings when those 2 start. Not only is Pagan not good enough based on performance, he really doesn't fit in the bullpen construction.

I really wonder if part of the reason he is still around is the fear that someone in the division like KC or Detroit (or God forbid, Cleveland) will pick him up and "fix" his problems. I just have this sneaking feeling that FO is afraid that if Pagan is given a DFA he will picked up by another organization, and what they really want is to keep him around to see if they can harness that talent. Reasonable thinking for a non-contending team; disaster if you want to contend. Better move is to DFA Pagan, hope he slips through and hope he'll accept going to AAA to try to turn things around. If you lose him, you lose him. Not a big loss.

You got that right brother. Can't win if you can't score and I don't see any cavalry riding over the hill. Maaaaybe Larnach gives this lineup a boost in a couple of weeks? That's pretty much the only hope. Any team that has Kepler and/or Urshela hitting anywhere near the top 6 spots in the Batting order has got much bigger problems than the low end of the bullpen.

This guy needs to be gone. Yes, Twins haven't hit lately, but running this guy out there again and again is just embarrassing. Bring anyone you want up and give them a shot, this guy isn't it. If he "fixes" it somewhere else, so be it. Take this stick away from Rocco, he keeps poking his eye with it.

I can't comprehend the DFA of Duffey while keeping Pagan. I'd like Pagan to be able to turn a corner, but his pitches don't work. The only pitch he has is the 4 seamer, but without anything else to rely upon, it's going to be a tough row to hoe. That cutter should never be thrown again.

Cutter
2017 = -5.6 runs
2018 = -6.1 runs
2019 = -3.9 runs
2020 = -3.1 runs
2021 = -4.2 runs
2022 = -4.9 runs

I mean.. come ON. Isn't that enough track record to know the pitch does not work??

The difference for the FO on Duffey and Pagan is Duffey will be FA at end of year and Pagan has another year of control. It just seems they hold on the guys so long thinking something will click and they will be a good pitcher. Then at the same time, the young pitchers- Moran for one gets a short leash. Not saying Moran is the next Chapman, but maybe it is time to see what he can do for an extended time at MLB level. Doubt if Moran would be worse than Pagan, Pagan is last of Twins pitchers at -1.2 WAR. Smith and Duffey only combined for -1.1 WAR and they are both gone.

Not really. The Twins will not agree to Pagan's arbitration salary so he's going to be non-tendered and become a free agent. If the Twins are betting the season on saving a few bucks on Pagan next year, that's an awfully lousy gamble.
