1987 Miracle Juice We Need

I was there. Game 7. 1987. Didn't know I was going till the day of. My buddy and I were given tickets. It was like the rapture after they won. Thought the Metrodome sign was gonna get trashed. 70 yr olds high fiving in the streets with 1000s of others. The thing I remembered most about that team was the grit. Hrbeck-like attitude. Along with guys wanting the ball on the hill. Guts enough to throw backwards in the count. Oh, and the studs, who were paid to be studs...showed up nightly!

I think Rocco needs to schedule some team building activities, like the 87 team thrived on.

I mean, look at the joy and comraderie with which they celebrated touchdowns during team-building tackle football games!!

And they didn't even have to put yard lines on the field. The dome alway had those faded out but not quite gone yardlines visible from Viking and Gopher games!

This FO had a great opportuity to instill that feeling of magic when in 2021 to commemorate  our great last World Series championship. By bringing back those competitive years of the pin stripes 1961- 75? when we 1st went to the WS and won a few divisional championships and 1987- 2010? when we won our 1st 2 WSs and won several divisional championships. If this FO knew anything about Twins history & tradition, they would have reinstated those pinstripes & stirred up those flames of those years.

Instead they brought back baby blues in 2021, to bring nostalgia of the "Twinkie" era, dark years of the Twins where they became bottom feeders from 1976?-1986. The result in 2021 we were ranked as one of the top teams of MLB & favorites to win our division, but we miserably ended up in the cellar. We have a great team & should be running away with this division but we are stagnate and our top player are performing well below their expectations. Why did they bring back the baby blues out of the blue? Maybe because of ignorance & thought the baby blues looked cool.

Solution? Burn the baby blues, bring back the pinstripes & do an extensive PR of stirring up the magic of those years. Another suggestion is, pry Wes Johnson away to join us in the post season. I think that'd give our pitchers a little spark.

We do not have a great team, we have proven time and time again to be mediocre.

I do agree with ditching the baby blues of the non-competitive years and bringing back the pin stripes.

Don’t forget the team building activities of the ‘88 team:

How Steve Lombardozzi Rammed His Head Into Dan Gladden's Fist

Later, the next morning, imprudent wisdom or the spirit of Jersey Joe Walcott  inspired Stevo to make a call on Gladden's suburban estate. I'm not saying the two had a cerebral, dignified discussion...but judging from the scratches and bruises and cracked ring finger on Gladden, in addition to the whopping steak Lombo had over his eye upon reporting to the home clubhouse that afternoon, it's fair to say they found a way to sort through their problems as only real men do. Twins manager Tom Kelly, who saw the storm building for about a week, said "It's probably better that it happened." TK was most likely correct: boys will be boys.  Case closed.

Pin Stripes are cool but the only blind eye to successful years/uniforms isn’t just the FO. “Competitive years” of ‘61-75??? We sucked early, and were solid from ‘64 - ‘70. Won 74 in ‘71 & got up to 84 in ‘74. Blyleven had around a 2.5ERA in ‘73 and went 20-17. That’s how stellar our offense was.

WOULD Dig the pin stripes though!!

The magic the ‘87 Twins had going for them is completely encapsulated by the following…

1 - only need to win one playoff series to get to the WS

2 - Tom Kelly

3- Jack Clark’s injury.

I see this team more like the ‘86 Twins. Just a piece or two missing. I think that’s fantasy enough.

(I also was at G7. Offered to buy tickets at the start of the ALCS by an ‘insider’. Didn’t have the extra cash, so signed up for 3 WS G7 tickets. No way did I think I’d end up having to pay. Visa. Ended up taking my Mom who was the person who hooked me on the Twins…HUGE fan. She’s long since gone. But what a memory!)

Back in the early 60's it seemed like we always had a winning record against the Yanks.

Yankees were just another team until Kelly retired, since then it has been pathetic.
