Article: Putting Aaron Hicks in Perspective

Recommended Posts

I agree with this. Plus, there's no where to go but up in the BA department. And that is going in the right direction. Also, two more years of team control, stronger arm, more power (when he starts making more contact), switch hitting. By the end of the year, everyone will be calling it an upgrade at the position. Add in Worley and May (who should be better than Worley as early as next year), and it's a win.

First of all, stop using words like "bro," you weirdo. Second of all, you are unable to compose using complete sentences (para 4) so I am going to ignore you.

After striking out 20 times in his first 46 PA, Hicks has only struck out twice in his last 24 PA. That's very encouraging.

ZiPS projected him at .232/.314/.358 before the season. The ZiPS update has him down to .206/.299/.310 which isn't surprising, given his horrific start in the average and power departments. He's currently walking more than that, but if he doesn't start generating even a little bit of power, I could see the walk rate falling to those levels.

The quote in that sentence, although not classically punctuated aside from the capitalization of the first word, is very much a sentence. Some people think starting a sentence with "because" is also taboo, but mercifully writing is not finite. If you cannot read something with a sense of context, I suggest sticking to classic newspapers. The quotation is intentionally unpunctuated (not a real word, by the way) to give the reader a sense of the rambling nature with which I envision it being "spoken."

Thank you for the literary criticism. Always helpful for honing the craft of writing.

I was totally serious. However, since you want to go down this road...it is acceptable to start a sentence with the word "because." However, you still need to turn it into a complete sentence. "Because A, then B." "Because there are people who say things like, "Mike Trout yada yada yada," then I feel the need to make a comment about them." As constructed in your article, you have not formed a complete sentence. BTW, I agree people should wait a while to freak out about Hicks, and long term he's a better player than Revere. Oh, and you're welcome. Always glad to help out.

Because the word "then" is unnecessary, your sentence flows better without it. :)

I see what you did there. ;)

Plus, Hicks has clearly established himself as a guy whose OBP is .150 higher than his average, so if he ever hits .300+, he’ll have an OBP of almost .500. Because that’s how math works, dammit.

You used math wrong. His OBP is 3.07 times higher than his average, so in actuality, if he ever hits .300, his OBP will be .921.

Something to look forward to.

Ha, you're right. Apparently I was completing my own sentence in my own head...which no work good in writing. Well played, bro, well played. My condescending sarcasm will slink away slowly now.

Because you are astute. (And the world needs more stutes.)
Because I am astute, I also see what you did here.

I guess there are no Mark Twain fans here. But then, he made that up, too. I see that Twins Daily is no longer billed as "Independent. In-depth. Irreverent. Individuals". Must not have been proper sentences.

This got pretty lame. The OP was good enough, certainly, to have a conversation about the actual content and not to get into some serious grammatical masturbation.

Hicks has been better over the last few weeks. This is what to expect when a guy skips a level.
