GAME THREAD: Twins vs. Blue Jays, 8/7/22, 1:10CT | 2:10ET

Instant replay calls should only take as long as it take to view the various angles.  If you have to look and study and assume this or that, you've lost the credibility. It has to be based on actuality, not possibility.

That really sucks! F that decision. And Kepler...... he should have been in position to score the winning run on Gordon's ground out. They will be showing this sequence on Sports Center over and over.

If you got the ball the baseline belongs to you, you do not have to give the runner a lane, that’s baseball. This catcher blocking the plate rule is so contrary to the real rules that even the umpires and replay officials are confused by it.

The reason I am against replay is 1) takes the human element away; 2) allows teams to use too much time to make their decision to challenge. I suggest 15 seconds maximum; and 3) the reviews in New York take forever and if they cannot make a clear decision in 30 seconds from their views of several angles and super slow motion, why are we waiting. Next we will get batters allowed to challenge a ball/strike call plus a manager's challenge with the electronic strike zone. Replay is not an improvement to the game of baseball. I'm not really a fan of soccer (futball) but recently a friend suggested that the growth of soccer in North America was largely at the expense of baseball because soccer maintains its rules without succumbing to the lures of advertising and technology. I don't know anything about that because I don't watch soccer but replay sucks.

About Mauer. There has been far too much whining about his injuries and contract. Sad commentary on those who participate.

This - Joe Mauer is almost universally among the top 10 catchers in baseball history (ranked #7 by Fangraphs resident expert HOF writer) and easily the best catcher in Senator/Twin history. Nobody who has ever clicked on this site will ever watch a better catcher play for the Twins in their lifetime.

Oh, and he will soon be #7 (Twins) in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

If Mauer gets in, the Twins will then have one more than the six from days gone by and the franchise was in Washington as the Senators/Nationals/Senators - Hall of Fame members Goose Goslin, Sam Rice, Joe Cronin, Bucky Harris, Heinie Manush and one of the greatest players and pitchers of all time, Walter Johnson.

I will take your word for it…. I am one of those regional Twins fans that are relegated to radio only because of black out rules!!! Maddening

When the ump made the call about the play being overturned, my mind rushed back to a Viking game when an offical (armen T.) got plunked.

Armen Terzain, , old school buddy was the culprit of the Whiskey bottle toss, not okaying it,, Today was as Brutal

Well, that wasn't the most horse **** call I've ever seen in my life but it's way up there. I actually don't have a huge problem with the rule itself but Sanchez needs a lane to catch the ball. Merrifeld chose to go straight at Sanchez when he could have slid outside his knee.

And the fact that they overturned the (correct) on-field call only adds to how bad it was.

The Twins are playing pretty tough baseball but they really need a couple of missing players to show up. I have been a big fan and sometimes too vocal in support of both Max Kepler and Byron Buxton because I think they are good baseball players. Lately they are pretty much absent, whether from injury or just lack of concentration or awareness of a situation. I will expect them to look inside and make whatever adjustments are necessary to push forward the rest of the season. They are both capable and the Twins need them.

Terrible call and first time I have respected Rocco for awhile. He looked right into the cameras and told MLB to F off

Not only did Rocco drop a minimum of 10+ f-bombs after call was (wrongfully) overturned, but he doubled down in post-game comments calling out MLB by saying that call was "terrible" and "pathetic" and should never be made in such a game that "players were battling their a$$ off"---------I've been waiting for any sort of emotion from Rocco since he took over as manager.  The emotion was great to see!  HIs post-game comments were notably measured, but hopefully struck a chord with MLB (in New York) that this is HIS TEAM and Twins aren't going to be the little team that just rolls over anymore.

I want to make up posters of Rocco pointing at cameras and yelling "**** YOU" to the umpire in NY. Just beautiful.

Replay is supposed to address egregiously wrong calls, not "second guess judgment calls."

But that's what replay has become.  Instead of NY deciding whether the ups got it obviously wrong, they're reviewing and reversing judgment calls.

Pathetic.

I don’t believe he preaches fundamentals…. because, you know, player’s manager. They believe they are beyond that at this level. Earl Weaver would have him on the bench for a week

That’s the big deal there. If you going to have replay and right some wrongs that’s fine. But to overturn the correct call, a call that has been made correctly for over 150 yrs?!? What do they do now? They have to address it. Sanchez had the ball, the sliding lane only is an issue if the catcher does not have the ball. The Twins should protest and at least force them to explain their position.
