What's everybody thinking? Are we going to make any moves?

We've basically got one day left. Is the FO going to pull the trigger on something? Or are we going to do next to nothing to improve the team? I don't want to hear Falvine say "we didn't want to mortgage the future, for the present". We've been getting that BS for 30 years. I thought they'd have made a couple deals by now. Even minor ones. The effing Yankees just got Effross from the Cubs. Good stats and 5 years of team control! We obviously need more than that, but he would've fit right in here. I'm losing hope that they'll actually make any kind of solid addition by tomorrow.

I'm going with zip. The more I think about it, that Effross guy would've been a REAL nice get. I just watched some more vid of him...he looks damn good. It just ticks me off that the Yankees get guys like that. Why can't we have nice things?

I expect at least one move. If there's only one move, I would guess it'll be for a reliever. If 2 moves, maybe one for a reliever and one for a starter.

I'm curious whether the Twins FO is in on "rental" starting pitching—it would seem to make a lot of sense, with their pitching staff needing serious patches and seemingly fewer available, healthy young players as trade assets than they had at the beginning of the year. But trading for rentals has not seemed to be this front office's MO.

If they were amenable to this, it seems like Rodón could be a big splash (who would still cost less than Castillo and other guys under contract past '22) and Eovaldi could be the modest, incremental alternative. But hard to predict whether they're open to that kind of trade.

I'm thinking we're getting a sobering look at just where the Twins minor league system really stands.

It has definitely gone backward this year with the pitchers. If they can't fix this, they should be gone. They'll never sign top pitchers.... So they need to develop them. So far? It hasn't worked.

Pretty thin on position player talent, too, IYAM. Every team has "could be a decent 4th OFer with luck and health" in their system.

Unless you're bringing up difference makers your minor leagues are worthless. Promoting  Nick Gordon or signing/trading for Ehire Adrianza are the exact same thing, and neither gets you where you want to go.

That's one reason I'm generally always in favor of trading for big league players.

I also realize I'm in the minority with this view. Also many people truly enjoy following the minors and I don't mean to belittle that. Some people also feel more attached to players that have come up through the Twins system. I can respect that as well.

Me? I want wins.

I wasn't even aware paternity lists worked that way.  I wonder if Joe Smith is worried he could be next?

The Milwaukee Brewers' 3-4 & 5 batters went on the paternity list last week because they all demonstrated they were Joe Smith's daddy.

There seems to be a lot of that going around.  I hear Canada is barring entry to most of the Brewers roster on their next road trip to Toronto, as a consequence.
