Game Thread: Twins @ Tigers 5:10pm cdt 7/23/2022 ad

Recommended Posts

@wsnydesI'll call your David Hasselhoff game thread introduction (which was quite the write up. I am envious of your attention to detail) and raise you a Richard Dean Anderson game thread intro, who was born 72.5 years ago (that would be January 23rd, 1950, and according to my glance at wikipedia) in Minnesota, no less. So he's like... topical and stuff.  And thematically appropriate. Those of you who think out bullpen somewhat thin, doesn't it make victory more meaningful to see how Rocco's going to MacGyver the last few innings? And when we're on the road at some strange new ballpark like the one in Detroit, isn't that like visiting a new world through a Stargate? Okay maybe that's a bit of a stretch., but a fun one to make. What is the planet of "Detroit" like? And who knows Mr. Anderson might have been a hockey player, but he broke both his arms. We have had our fair share of pitchers we've helped back from injuries. I think he'd approve.

In all the excitement of a more or less spontaneous theme, i kinda lost track. Did i give ya 6 things to think about? Or only 5?

But seeing as thinking is more of an analog process than we usually care to admit, and sometimes higher math is frowned upon in game threads, i gotta ask myself... Do i feel lucky. No, perhaps not. That would be too optimistic for a Minnesotan sports fan. But i'm gonna post this anyway, as the lineups seem to have come out.

Us:

0. Joe Ryan (R) P

1. Luis Arraez (L) 1B

2. Carlos Correa (R) SS

3. Jorge Polanco (S) 2B

4. Max Kepler (L) RF

5. Alex Kirilloff (L) LF

6. Jose Miranda (R) DH

7. Nick Gordon (L) CF

8. Gio Urshela (R) 3B

9. Gary Sanchez (R) C

Them:

0. Michael Pineda (R) P

1. Riley Greene (L) CF

2. Javier Baez (R) SS

3. Robbie Grossman (S) RF

4. Miguel Cabrera (R) DH

5. Harold Castro (L) 1B

6. Jeimer Candelario (S) 3B

7. Jonathan Schoop (R) 2B

8. Tucker Barnhart (S) C

9. Akil Baddoo (L) LF

Hey, look who's playing Left Field for them? Welcome back to the bigs, Mr. Baddoo!

And we're facing only 40% ex-Twins?

4 of 9 players for Detroit were former Twins...It's like watching a throw back game...

If the Tigers are collecting Twins players, I'm sure we can come up with a few more guys on our current roster for them.

Just saw that Buxton got a PRP injection in his right knee on Wed, so he'll be out until probably next weeks series with the Brewers. Not good news, but hopefully it helps the knee.

This team's communication/PR is a complete #$&&-show. This is the kind of thing you announce right away or in advance. Not 3 days later after people are pissed about your lineup. But this is the same front office that let Paul Molitor learn Escobar was traded from MLB Network. Clown show.

I’m glad Bux got to play in the game. He earned it.
The ex-Twins are having a much harder time this year. Let’s hope that continues during the series, rather than the traditional ex-Twin beat down.

Not sure he deserved it.  So he plays what 4 innings, has to get a shot in the knee to help healing.  Very easily could have accepted the All-Star nod and then opted to not play for THE TEAM and 2nd half push for the year.  So we will see him in the lineup for about 35 more games this year, instead of 36.  Most likely if he played today, he would sit tomorrow.

Buxton is like watching someone running in the sand.  for everyh 2 steps forward, they lose one step.  I think for every x-ray, MRI and or c-scan he takes. he needs to take a lie detector test.  He's the softest guy since the Pillsbury dough boy.

Playing in the ASG is not the reason he got the shot. It’s the reason he got it Wednesday instead of Monday. He can’t accept and then not play. He would have had to turn it down. And yes, he did deserve it.

Many guys deserve to play in the ASG.  Also, many guys make it, that don't deserve it.  It's an exhibition game, and therefore no  reason to risk our livelihood, in my opinion.  Too many people count on their ASG reps to perform the betterment of the team.  I've never seen a team heralded after a season by their ASG contribution.

This is just another example of Buxton's fragileness.  Let's see how much he plays the 2nd half, and how effective he is. My guess is he will be the same or worse.  Might as well get the surgery now.

All-Star break is officially over.  Game chat break for me isn't, regrettably.  It's a waste of time to spend three hours amidst "Twins fans" yearning for something awful to happen.

yearning for a pitching staff that can get some outs
