MLB, MLBPA Remain $80M Apart on International Draft Money

MLB's latest offer is a hard $181 million in guaranteed spending, with each team unable to exceed their allocated limit.  The union wants at least $260 million guaranteed, with teams allowed to exceed their limits up to 20% before incurring a loss of a draft pick.

The deadline for a potential agreement is 25 July.   MLB has offered to get rid of the qualifying offer system for impending free agents if a draft agreement can be reached.

I like how both the owners and MLBPA listed a long list of vague reasons why this didn't work out but both conveniently left out their monetary demands.

Anyone know what the total pool for the domestic draft is? It's now 20 rounds just like the proposed international draft so I'd think you'd just match the pot and be done with it.

Because money in major league baseball appears to be a theoretical entity, just split the difference and move on.  My biggest question is Why have a ceiling at all if any team can surpass it as long as the are wealthy enough to do so?  The penalty of losing a draft pick in return for outspending everyone else for the best players seems out of proportion.
