Trade Rumor: What would a Luis Castillo trade look like?

Alcala. He plays for the Twins. Though he is injured I am glad they didn’t sell low on him after two bad minor league stints.

I know who Alcala is, I just didn't know why you'd covet a middle reliever like he was made of gold. I guess my head was stuck on Alcantara at that point.

Gaetti's numbers were never bad, and Koskie has one bad number, -1, his first year and one bad year after that, dream on.

I am not a big fan of Larnach's weak arm but he is a far, far better fielder than Miranda, trade Miranda.

Some people blither here about letting Garlic g,o and his (the wonderful world of analytics) OPS is better than the other three rookies; his best position is Left Field and that is where some one is needed.

Larnach has good numbers in right field where he can back-up Kepler.

Larnachs weak arm? Teams have already stopped running on him. Unreal.

I simply pointed out there are players of value that had bad stretches that I am glad they didn’t sell low on and super confused why I was slammed with a bunch of Alcantara stuff. Best that we add each other our ignore lists.

I think Alcala is the kind of bullpen piece the Twins need and hopefully he will be healthy for the stretch run and playoffs. I am glad they didn’t sell low. He isn’t made of gold but a winning roster will need a farm system that produces valuable pieces even if they aren’t so elite.

I think a package of Scott Tyler and Travis Bowyer would do it.

Does anyone else remember the consternation and hand wringing over that trade? Along with the Stewart for Kielty deal?

As long as the veteran is an established and consistent player I would do prospect for veteran trades 9 out of 10 times and just keep a handful of untouchable prospects... who really aren't untouchable if you get the right player.

Let me get this straight we are talking about the soon to be 27 year old pitcher that has blown 5 of his 17 save/hold opportunities in 87 innings and has done his best pitching against the worst teams in the league in September? He has done nothing to prove he is a back of the pen relief pitcher that was what this year was for. So for people to expect him to come back from a 1/2 year injury and do something he has never proven he can do to help the this team to the playoffs might be asking a bit much from him, don't you think?

There are rumors of trading for Robertson. He has blown 5 of 18 this year. Puk has blown 6 of 19 in 63 career innings but that wasn’t the point of my original comment in the thread . It was much simpler about selling low.

I am still glad they did not sell low on him after two bad stints in the minors. I am also glad they didn’t sell low on Lewis or Duran who were the other two in my short original response. All of the rest of this rabbit hole is because a respondent thought I meant Alcantara instead of Alcala.

I get that, but one would argue about 50-100 minor league players that weren't sold at their high or Low and never made it. I just can't say I am glad these players weren't sold because I have no idea what the Twins have gotten in return. Maybe the Twins could have gotten Zac Gallen in 19, or Greinke or Ray in 20 for some or all of them.

Puk has blown 3 of 14 this year which is 22%, not great not terrible. True on Robertson in all 5 blown saves he has given up 1 run and hasn't given up a run in his 13 saves and has once this year given up more than 1 run and Puk also has only given up more than 1 run once this I will take that. (To compare Duran has given up more than 1 run 4 times)

OPS has been used since around the 70s. Also how do you quantify who is a better fielder between 2 players that play different positions? They both have similar OAA at the very least (Average to below average) So not sure where you're getting that info

The Athletic had an article today where beat writers made trade proposals for Castillo and they had Keith Law (their prospect guy) rate the package. Dan Hayes suggested the Twins could send Steer, Winder, and SWR to the Reds. Law's response was:

"Maybe? I’m concerned by how hard MLB hitters hit Winder’s fastball this year, and what we can see about the shapes of his other pitches, which might mean I was too high on him coming into the year. If this is really two relievers plus Steer, who has made himself into a potential regular with his breakout, it’s too light."

It seems like we're overflowing with lefty hitting corners. I'd thin that out, along with some upside prospect pitching, for a true #1-2 starting pitcher. We arguably haven't had a true #1 since Johan Santana. Early Liriano probably would have been, if not for injury.

I'd keep Miranda simply because he is a right handed masher that is proving he belongs, and I'd like seeing his bat in the lineup between a couple lefties in upcoming years. This past winter and spring everyone was predicting "lousy fielding no power" Arraez as the likely trade candidate. I hear only crickets about that now.

A legit #1-2 controllable starter, some bullpen help, and some catching depth are needed for both now and the future. Let's be prepared to lose some good prospects. And let's not forget about the Levi Michaels/Blankenship/Restovich types that we held for too long.
