Is it time to worry about joe Ryan

No, unless you think he's an ace, which he isn't. This is what he is. A low number 2 or high number 3 starter. Those guys are going to have rough games, and he's just coming back from COVID.

What? People don’t get as excited about the #3 starter as they’ve gotten about Ryan. Unless you’re saying he’s overhyped

I think you have to pull Ryan. He's thrown a lot of pitches in two separate innings, and the velo is already down and he didn't go too far in his last start. You just had a day off and the game is currently winnable, but may not be if you send him out for the 5th inning.

What is this “weak because of Covid” talk? Has that been said by him or are we just guessing (hoping) that’s what it is?

According to Bremer, Ryan said he had problems with stamina after his last start, likely attributed to his battle with the virus.

He has a 3.73 FIP and 4.47 xFIP, and 3.42 xERA. That's a borderline #2 or 3 starter in a good rotation. Nobody who looks beyond the surface numbers is thinking Ryan is anything more nationally. There may be some local media/fans who hype up Ryan as more because of how devoid the Twins have been with pitching in the last decade+.

I will add the same thing with Ober. There are Twins fans who think Ober is a #2 or 3 starter which isn't the case either. He's maybe a #4 starter.

Not overhyped… as Twin fans we just are desperately wanting quality MLB starting pitching! Haven’t had it for some time now

Gotta take advantage of the umps gift and Civale not being good. He has a terrible ERA for a reason, and it isn't bad luck.

Yep, I drafted him on my fantasy team. The guy was just getting shelled every time out there. He's not good.

Seems like Joe’s fastball is deceptive, but he’s now been seen by the teams in the division and they now have a chance to adjust to him.

His pitches are okay, but not overpowering. If he can’t dominate with the fastball, he not going to be dominating with his other pitches.

Well that’s disappointing

It's just a matter of how you're viewing him/expectations. He's a really good young arm who can pitch in a playoff series both now and in the future. I would hardly call that disappointing. He just isn't an ace, but he never was and was never going to be. Getting 6+ years of a #2/3 starter for a 40 year old DH is HUGE, and how you build a successful team.
