Three Trade Targets That Fit The Twins Style

I don’t know why Miami would sell low on Rogers. He’s affordable and they can pick any time in the next three years to move him. Unless they know he’s broken for good, surely they’d wait until he rebounds.

No interest in Marquez or Hendricks. I’d rather see the young arms. I’d trust the young arms more too.

IMO the reason Miami would sell low is because they still have an incredible rotation with a bunch of other monster arms approaching the MLB. That alone isn't enough to trade someone just to trade them but they have a desperate need for controllable bats and I think they match up well with the Twins in that regard.

I to don’t like the 3 suggestions. I would consider both of the following trades.

It could be a 3 team trade Marlins-“A”-Twins.
Miami gets the “A” centerfielder + player.

Oakland get a pitcher + player from Miami.

Oakland get Celestino + Martin + Sands + player from the Twins.

Twins get Montas & Blackburn.

Then, work a trade with the Pirates for relief pitchers Bednar & Stratton to the Twins for #8 Steer, #9 Waller, #14 Sabato, #17 Strotman + player.
I agree this would thin out the prospects but with current recent promotions to the big team with limit success and maintaining 8 of 10 top prospects. And a younger set of prospects on the lower end of the prospects for the lack of experience.

Here's the issue with trade ideas like this (and why I'm writing about names that aren't very appealing): The front office has never shown any hint that they'd do something like this. There are other teams with better farm systems and more money who will want guys like Montas, Bednar, etc. and the Twins have to win a bidding war against them. This is why they do things like trade for Kenta Maeda and change his pitch sequencing. It's the only way they can win without emptying their farm system.

A trade deadline that brings in Frankie Montas and Bednar/Stratton probably costs somebody like Kirilloff, Larnach, Arraez etc. in addition to a bunch of other players at the top of our prospect lists. Regardless of whether or not you think they should do that, do you think they will?

The last thing they should do is trade away promising young position players for a #3 SP.  They already have great SP depth and more on the way over the next couple years so I just don't see much value in a #3 to this team.  Another top of the rotation guy is another matter especially in the playoffs.

If Trevor Rogers goes back to last year's level (he still has the same velo, spin rate, and pedigree) he's without a doubt our #1 starting pitcher. The only measurable difference between 2021 and 2022 is a slight drop in release point, he doesn't look broken or injured or missing spider tac or anything along those lines.

As I've pointed out, we can keep calling for somebody like Tyler Mahle or Frankie Montas, but when the Dodgers or other big market teams with more reckless tendencies decide they want these guys, the Twins will be the first out of the mix based on everything we've seen the front office do since they were hired.

Nothing wrong with wanting these ready made aces, I just personally don't find it worthwhile to put a whole lot of thought into the idea because I just don't see it happening.

I understand your thinking on Rogers,   I just don't understand why Miami would sell low on him when they have 4 and a half  more years of control.   Are there rumors they want to move him?  Like I said, I don't disagree he could bounce back but why would they move him without getting a return that assumes he returns to ace status almost immediately?

Few other names that aren't so much reclamation projects but pitchers who could become available or have been named as available who could probably help the rotation and not cost a huge prospect package.

David Price- has been the bullpen and not what he was but could be used in the postseason with a ton of experience in the postseason

Jose Quintana- Should be a cheap get (doesn't move the needle much)

Noah Syndergaard- If the Angels keeps sliding he could be a nice pitcher to snag for the postseason push and if he is successful hopefully enjoys his time and resign this winter.

Blake Snell/Mike Clevinger- Padres won't fall out of the race because of all of their arms but because of injuries could the Twins entice them to move off of one of their arms for a bat? Kepler or Urshella maybe in exchange for one of the arms? Snell coming back from injury and so maybe more likely of the 2 but Clevinger is a FA this winter as well.

They haven't been rumored to be shopping him but keep in mind, they weren't really shopping Zac Gallen a few years ago until they found out they could get someone they loved in Jazz Chisholm. The Twins have a good amount of near MLB hitting prospects which the Marlins need and I've been watching them for a few years now wondering when they'd part with some of their pitching to make a more well rounded team.

Maybe Rogers is off the table, or maybe they're willing to cash in on a struggling pitcher who's value is still riding high off of last year.

I wouldn't call a deal like this likely because it never is when it comes to a challenge trade involving all young players being exchanged but I do think this is a rare fit that would really help both sides.
