Is Reusse still relevant?

He can be a curmudgeon, but he does not hate baseball. I would say he cares more about it then any other journalist/media personality in MN outside of perhaps Dick Bremer. Does he complain about current changes/trends? Yes.

He shared a daily radio show up here with another curmudgeon, until ESPN destroyed KSTP radio station, and was interesting to listen to whether you agreed with him or not.

He has forgotten more about sport than all but a few here know or will ever know , so I give him the respect he deserves.

He's still on Mackey and Judd 3 times/week or so, does a full hour on Monday and does his Monday night show with Souchery (the other curmudgeon) it's just all in podcast form. I can't listen to the later, as I can't stand Joe and his lack of knowledge about almost everything that's not politics.

Joe knows absolutely nothing about politics. He was a good talker once upon a time.

He is really a knowledgeable ball guy. You just have to realize when he is being serious and when he is agitating. It seems this is something more and more people struggle with.

I remember him saying that part of his mission as a writer is to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.

Ruesse is the best baseball writer the Twin Cities have ever seen.

I hope he lives and works to be Sid's age.

Concur. He has more humanity in his crabby fingers than the rest of the town's sports writing crowd would be able to muster up collectively.  He cares about a lot of things, but he doesn't much care what you or I think of him.

Reusse knows more about the game of baseball than most of us on here. Note I said the game of baseball. His interest and his knowledge and his history of the game go past the current iteration of MLB. He will delve into town ball, high school ball, and college ball, where others only know what they see at the MLB level.

Beyond that, are the stories and the recollections. There isn’t another like him in this market, nor will there be. Curmudgeon he may be, but long live his career.

Reusse sometimes tries too hard to stir up interest via hawt taeks, no different than most journalists really, but he is solid.  I listened to a few minutes of today's edition of the podcast where he half-heartedly had to defend his facetious 0-9 prediction for the past string of games, and I wasn't harmed by the experience.  He's seen a ton of good players in his time, so if he says that Nick Gordon is atrocious at SS, it merely reflects experience, not negativity per se.  Or, at least, I give him a pass, because I like validation of my own opinion of Gordon's stylings at short.

You sir, have split the tail of the dart in the center of the bull's eye. Pat Reusse has always been a muck-raking style journalist. Not exactly dishonest, but tending towards the old "if it bleeds, it leads" formula. That includes using hyperbolic adjectives like "atrocious" for Nick Gordon's defense, where actually it might be more useful to note that we should not expect top performance from a guy that keeps moving around from one position to another. Gordon these days has played more in the outfield than anywhere else. He has gotten rather good at that, while his skills at SS have diminished a bit. Play him at CF for a couple weeks, then at SS for one game, don't expect greatness at SS. But if you play him at SS for two weeks, I suspect Gordon will get to about league average quality at SS. After all, it's considered the hardest position, right?

In short, he's a good utility man, and gradually getting better as a hitter. Reusse has a daily article to write, so sometimes he just picks a target and pulls the trigger. Professional athletes should not expect to be treated fairly by a deadline-driven press.

My negative opinion of Reusse was driven by listening to him on Rand's podcast. As @jimbo92107 said it's the hyperbolic adjectives, "tare-bull", and the grating voice and frankly insulting the players  that I don't like. "Doc Roc", that's just dumb. I guess I much prefer the print version, he has written some nice pieces. I would agree as @Platoon said he knows baseball, but I don't share his opinions about the current Twins.
