Am I way off base for thinking he shouldn't have been playing the outfield?

No you're not wrong. It was said by the FO that the reason he was sent back down was to familiarize Lewis with playing corner OF CF 3B and 1B. I believe he got to play 1 or 2 games in the OF. Granted, Lewis is a great athlete. But learning to play CF on the fly is tough. Angles taken, the wall, the warning track all take time to learn. If he had a few more games under his belt in CF, perhaps this injury doesn't occur.

Very unfortunate, he was healthy until this last year or so and he could be healthy and injury free indefinitely after this next rehab.

Doesn't he get a big league check since he got injured in the bigs?

Selfishly I was looking forward to watching him play. I just can't believe the amount of injuries in this non-contact sport. The pitchers make sense throwing all that gas, but position players? Man it's just tough.

If Lewis is to have a career, there is a good chance team construction and his talents dictate he ends up in center field. If he can't play center without getting injured, he has no chance. If he didn't play center on that particular day...... C'mon now.

That's not what I said. Levine stated that when all of you were in an uproar over Lewis being sent back to AAA was for Lewis to gain experience at all these different positions. He got to play 1 or 2 games so how much experience did he get. Next to none. If he had more I said perhaps this injury doesn't occur

My point is any speculation over whether things would've have been different if things has been handled differently is completely pointless.

Not entirely, IMO. I was quite against just throwing him in the outfield and supported letting him figure out new positions in St Paul for awhile.

I was also leery of him being recalled so quickly but deferred to the Twins’ judgment on that.

And now this happened. No matter how good the athlete, it’s pretty apparent they can’t just learn a position on the fly. There’s no reason for this to have happened.
