I still can't believe we voluntarily sent Cotton back to AAA in favor for ANY of the arms that have pitched tonight for the Twins. He's better (right now) than any of them we've seen.

Cotton wasn't on the 40 man roster, which would have meant waiving someone.  Also he's pitched a total of 9.2 innings this season.  It's a very small sample size.  This guy is 30 and never stuck in the majors.  There's a reason for that.

Stop blaming Rocco for using Duffey.

He can't not use the relievers he's given. He has waiver wire claims and minor league free agents to choose from. The front office deleted his best reliever before the season. He gets 39 yr old Joe Smith and Pagan in return.

Don't know how many times this needs to be said: There are no spots for non-performing relievers in modern baseball. No low leverage spots. No place to hide anyone.

Get him some better relievers this winter.

Maybe get him one or two by trade deadline? Pretty please with sugar on top?

Excellent point.

He has to use the staff that is available. Tonight, it has been Sands, Minaya, Cano, Duffey, Megill so far.

Not a lot of trusted, established pitchera on good runs right there.

I read all winter that the Twins bullpen was "fine." Deep even. Plus the Pitching Pipeline(tm).

You cannot build a reliable bullpen from the junk other teams don't want. Dominant Relievers are not " fungible," "easy to find," "unpredictable."

Good lineups feast off these types.

You think the Twins planned on using 11 different starters by game 56?  That's pretty insane.  No team is baseball can go 11 deep no matter how deep their pipeline is.

Welp, Yanks in town, time for the Twins to roll over for that belly rub.

And that head-stomping.

Again.

So sick of this intimidation factor deciding games before they even get on the field. So sick of the Empire blasting our X-wings out of the ether.  Although it ain't exactly Skywalker leading the charge tonight...

You are paying Duff 3.8M this year and has been an above average pitcher for 3+ years.  I agree he's not good right now, but if I'm not sure you release that player to go with a guy with 9 good innings this year.  :shurg:
