I'm not sure what the problem is, but Duffey pitching in the 9th inning has been a disaster. He's been somewhat ok earlier in games, but something about the 9th turns him into a well below replacement level pitcher.

Spotted with a 5-run lead, no less … glad we got out of it, and glad we are heading home

Whew! More exciting than we needed. Can't blame the manager, Duran got hit by a line drive. No way he could pitch the 9th once the bruise set in. Smart of him to use the challenge to buy time for the reliever to warm up with Duffy imploding. Besides, that same manager brought a AAAA squad to Canada and beat the Jays 2 out of 3.

Seriously, does Duffy have any options left? He should go to AAA, not Cotton.

If after the 3 batter minimum you've allowed more runners on base than you've gotten out, you should be pulled.

Hopefully the restricted list players will be rested going into the Yankees series, I would have never guessed they would win the series in Toronto, I figured they would get swept since Toronto was red hot and they were so depleted.

Baseball is funny that way.

That's why they play the game.

Isn't that the truth? Losing 4 out of 5 to a terrible Detroit team then win 2 out of 3 against a red hot Toronto team.

And looking terrible in the process against Detroit.

Baseball be weird.

Yep, on any given day you could see the worst be the best or the best be the worst or something you’ve never seen before … lots of reasons to watch, imo

Yup.  Marathon, not sprint.

That's why we watch.

Well said. We're probably not expecting a great series against the Yankees, but maybe there is one more shock ahead of us this week.

I love seeing the Angels lose, I dunno why.

It is a shame though that the best player in the game is so frequently not I'm the playoffs.  That is frustrating as a baseball fan.

It just goes to show that baseball is truly a team sport, and having 2 of the best players on the planet doesn't guarantee success. Even Trout and Ohtani bat once every 9 times.

Yup.  It also shows that the game needs to figure out a better way to showcase their stars.

Especially when they play on the west coast.

The West Coast/Pacific Time Zone games make it nearly impossible for people who work normal hours in the Central or Eastern Time Zone to stay up and watch. Even when the Twins games in the Central Time Zone come on at 7:10 I rarely can watch the whole game. I think I would have enjoyed the early days of baseball with no night games to be honest.

I beg to differ, you can certainly blame the manager. Quick trigger rocco is terrified of letting his starter see the lineup for a third time but he’s willing to gamble that a wildly inconsistent bullpen will be able to seamlessly get 15 outs without blowing the lead. Luckily the offense kept adding on or this could have been a disaster.

He had a plan for 3 guys to each get an inning and Duran to apparently get two. Then Duran gets a liner and almost had to come out. So a wildly unreliable option (Duffey) gets the 9th and pretty much imploded. He overmanaged and easily could have cost the game. He can’t seem to learn from his past mistakes.

I don't even start watching west coast games.  I'm at the office by 6am every day.

Yep. I'm not sure how many implosions we're gonna have to endure before he learns on who to use in such situations.

Not sure whats funny but I'd rather have the team win a road series against a better team going into the Yankees series than get swept, losing 7 out of 8 on their road trip going into the series.

What’s funny is the idea that the Twins can compete against the Yankees

The Pirates swept the Dodgers on the road. In baseball anything can happen.

Sure…. the Twins, as usual, will collectively wet themselves against  the Yankees. They have not done anything this season that would change that.
