The Philllies are a fun experiment in what a team with no defense, but some big name bats, can do. So far it's played out like most analytics people were predicting. Real hard to win with a brutally bad defense.

No doubt.  They're pretty hard to watch.  Offense isn't everything.

Some pundits like to emphasize that big bats is  everything and dimiss defense and try to show stats that they're OK defensively, when they are not. Phillies are are a good example of this, so changing managers won't change much. On the other hand TB which doesn't have much offense but decent pitching & defense are always in the mix.

The Phillies have scored 230 runs, and allowed 229. This fits the narrative to me.

TB, not sure… they’ve scored 210 runs, allowed 200. That’s middle of the pack on both.

Twins have scored 224 runs, allowed 196

Yankees 237 scored 152 allowed, man that’s tough!

If it's the poor defense that doomed this team, you'd have to think the GM should be gone too. Doubtful Girardi, who was a fairly old-school catcher advocated for bats over defense.

Hold up what, the Phillies GM is THAT Sam Fuld?!?! The one the Twins traded for Tommy Milone? Seems I should have known that.

You'd think Sam would've pushed Dombrowski for some more players with defensive capabilities.

Worst part for Philly fans is that Dombrowski isn't exactly known for building great farm systems. He's a spend, spend, spend guy to build major league rosters. So if the major league roster fails (as it looks like it is) he's also likely to leave them with very little on the farm to fix things quickly. Those fans may be in for a long road ahead. And they've already been bad for a decade. But I'm sure Philly fans will handle things with calm and class...

Always felt over-rated as a manager to me, but everyone with a little success as a Yankee is over-rated.  10 years in NY, most of those with Derek Jeter and A-Rod and company, but only 1 AL Championship.  7-0 in the postseason against the Twins.  21-24 against everyione else.
